The atmosphere looks cool and I am fairly certain my 11 and 13 year-olds will enjoy it. My DH is a little finicky with food (hates cheese, butter, anything creamy) and I am not seeing a ton on the menu for him. We are staying CL so planning on eating breakfast in our resort, then could only get ADR for Sci-fi at 2:45 pm, so not a good time at all :( Figured if nothing else opens up earlier before our trip, we would either cancel, or plan on just snacks and then lunch being our main meal, light dinner back at the resort. I guess my question is, if I am unable to secure a better time, more around lunch, is it still worth doing at 2:45 for the experience? Other option is to look for a dinner opening instead but not sure we want to spend all day at HS and wait around for dinner there.

It's a really fun atmosphere, the food is good - I think it's worth it to do your big meal of the day there as a late lunch.

The only dealbreaker I can think of is if you REALLY can't find anything that DH would eat, then it kind of seems like a cheat for him to have to wait all day for not much to eat for his "big meal". (That said, if I were him, I'd suck it up so the kids could enjoy the experience - or at least I like to think I would, but I don't have kids so it's easy for me to say that ;)

I think its worth it, the atmosphere is very unique. its the quietest and coolest restaurant in disney. Even if you go there just for milkshakes and apps, it would be worth it. BTW their shakes are to die for. Esp the oreo shakes. For apps, we loved the onion rings, spinach dip, and chicken wings. Yum! Overall the food there is pretty good. Cant go wrong with their burgers and fries.

Yes we loved it. Went in January for the first time after getting some solid advice from this board! We booked it again for September. :) It's a must do now.

That settles it- DH can have an oreo shake and onion rings and he will be happy as a clam, LOL. Ice cream for some reason, does not count as "too creamy" for him!!

Yes!!! It's worth it for the ambiance alone but we like the food too. My kids are the ones that request it every single year! This is the first year we are not doing it, in favor of trying something new! LOL

Must do for us ... it's probably the highest theme restaurant at Disney. You know you could just order appetizers or dessert.

YEAH!

I normally try to go to dining spots that makes everyone happy .... but at Disney ... it's not like we are really going for the food, we very much pick places for the atmosphere. Sci Fi is the most themed restaurant at Disney, it has a story, it's cool from top to bottom .... and that is where the "let them eat cake" comes in to play. :D The kids will think it's so cool and it is an attraction in itself.

We actually like that time frame for a lunch/dinner combo and we supplement with good snacks. :P

And now I am realizing that the 2:45 time might be nice to sit and rest and relax for a while anyway so may keep the time.

Ive always found SciFi hit or miss. The theming is really good but the kitchen can be on or off. I tend to eat at ZERO counter service in Studios because thats where CS goes to die. BUt, if Im doing a sit down and cant get into HBD, I dont mind Sci Fi or the 50s Lounge for a quick bite and a drink.

It's worth going once just to see it. The food is nothing spectacular and I wouldn't stray from burgers when ordering, but it's one of those places you try at least once to see it.

I am pretty sure I have had this exact thing as a meal many times before :rolleyes1. We took a larger group of rather picky eaters (only eat simple American foods) to Sci-Fi a couple years ago, and everyone really enjoyed their meals. We stuck with burgers, onion rings, and milkshakes and it was a crowd pleaser for us. I for one, appreciated the quiet reprieve from the extended family as they were engrossed in the movie clips!!! It was a win win for us. I hope you enjoy it!

Oh yes! It's a nice place to get out of the hot sun. We generally eat around 3pm because we like to share snacks around the park.

I want to offer a counter opinion.

I have gone to Sci-fi the last 3 times (most recently Dec 2017) for the atmosphere. It was neat, but the videos loop way too quickly. The food was underwhelming to say the least and last time we went one of our party got food poisoning.

My personal opinion is that if you are looking for a good meal go else-where. If you just want to go see the atmosphere it is neat, just order something small

Absolutely. We loved it our last stay. When scheduling our trip it was our first ADR booked, ironically at 2:45. It's such a great way to take a break before pushing through the rest of the day.

Drive-in theatres are almost a thing of the past, so the theme relates to those of past memories and the curiosity of those without within an A/C environment. Two children sitting in tables within a "car" shell within a sitting that replicates the outdoors makes it highly unique experience. Since the theme is the attraction, food is secondary. Fun place for kids at least once; noting the movie short clips displaying on the screen recycle every 60 minutes.

It's a must for us every trip ! I always look forward to the specialty shake !

Love the atmosphere, and the price is good for the amount of food you get - we have never left hungry, and enjoyed just about everything we have ordered !

Just wish they would bring back the picnic burger !

It's so cool inside, but the food isn't great. Honestly, with your ADR time, you may want to consider having an earlier QS lunch and just having snacks and desserts at Sci-Fi. It really is the most immersive restaurant in WDW IMHO and worth going to at least once.

It's Awesome....just don't get the steak! Went during Free Dining...and I like getting the priciest item...and the steak was horrible. Stick with the burgers and sandwiches!
