My husband was interested in the Sci Fi Dine In, He really likes old horror movies. What exactly do they play? Will it be to scary for my two and five year old.

I have a reservation for Mama Melrose as of now. Should I keep it. Or change to the Sci FI for the atmosphere?

Also how is the pasta dish there. I keep hearing bad reviews of the food.TIA.:3dglasses

Sci Fi just shows clips of old movies, not a whole movie. My kids didn't have a problem with it and they're little. The cars are so cute and the atmosphere is really cool. The food is average. Have not tried the pasta dish however. I was at MM last Summer on the Fantasmic plan and my food was not very good at all. My server was a sweetheart but the food tasted like a frozen .99 meal. Nothing at all special. Years ago MM was much better IMO. The kids would probably love Sci Fi. popcorn::

I would have to agree! The atmosphere is cool but the food is just fair. I only go there about once every 5 years or so. I much prefer the Prime Time Cafe over Sci-Fi anyday!

I also agree that the atmosphere is great & the food just so-so. DS and I area going for lunch to get a burger because he loves it in there. The movie clips are more the old sci fi type films than horror. They are really more funny than scary. DS and I both hate any type of true scary movie and we love it there. I don't know your kids, of course, but I always found that when DS was younger if we approached anything with humor he would go with the flow.

my son and I just went through this. I like the look of Sci Fi, but for food and overall exper. i have to go with prime time!

my kids loved it. the youngest was 18 months and was fine all the way up to a 11 yo. Husband had the pasta and he really liked it. One of the few places we are going back to this year.

It truly depends on your children. Things that look silly to most of us can look terrifying to little kids. A giant menacing woman could be pretty scary to a child! My DS was 8 (I think :goodvibes ) and he had nightmares for 2 months after this restaurant. But he was alway scared of things like that, so it wasn't too smart of us to take him there. He'll be almost 11 this year, so we are going again - the rest of us loved this place. And to further make my point, I also have a 6 yr old and I don't think it will be a problem for him at all. Only you know your children!

We loved Sci Fi The cars are soooo cool to sit in and the whole atmosphere is relaxed and cool on a hot day!! I had the shrimp pasta and was not impressed but the others had steak and loved it! I had the oreo cookie milkshake which was sooo good I'd go back just for that! Our waiter Michael was the best we had . Hre teased the kids and was so helpful whne dgs spilt a drink and dgd had a fit !!Onion rings are great too!! I've looked at prime times menu and it doesn;t appeal to me. I hear the burghers are great as is the cheesecake!!

We also loved Sci-Fi. We went last trip and will be going back again. The shakes are delicious and the atomosphere is really fun. My DD really enjoyed the movie clips.

We've made ADR's to go to Sci-Fi again this trip because it's DD6's favorite place to eat. She really enjoys the "eating in the car" atmosphere. The movie clips are more like previews (B movie previews) and there are a few cartoons in there. Really, the clips are very cheesy. But as PP's said, you know your kids and if you think one of them would be afraid of "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" or "Attack of the Killer Tomoatoes" clips then you should probably skip it. But, there were alot of young children in there last time none of them were screeming.

Not a fan of the Sci-Fi. Food was ok and our waiter was terrible, actually called an complained about him when we got back to the hotel. We love the 50's Prime Time. That is our fave in HS.

Do they have booster seats for the cars? I know you can't sit in the car with a high chair, but a booster seat would work for us.

yep. My youngest used a booster this past sept. I'll see if I can post the pic later today.

Well I can say that our family has reservations at Prime Time, Mama Melrose, and Sci-fi during our upcoming trip. We've only been to WDW one other time in 2005 and during that trip we ate at Mama's and Sci-fi. My DS was 3 at the time. He wasn't afraid at Sci-Fi at all. I will be honest to say that we didn't care for the food much at all but we're going this time because #1 we will be traveling with less critical grandparents this time and #2 the kids love it and begged to go back. As for Mama Melrose I really enjoyed it when we went and my son is such a picky eater that pasta one night will be a blessing from the chicken and fries he'll be eating most days.

Good luck in making your decision!

We went last year and were really excitied to go, but we did not like the food. That is the only place that we voted not to return to for our upcoming trip. I am glad that we had the experience there though! I don't know if that helped at all:rotfl:

DH and i went in april to SCI Fi and mama melrose's and loved them both. We are taking the boys in august for free dining and have ressies for Sci Fi again. Our food was great and the atmosphere and service will keep us going back again and again.:thumbsup2

We too are trying to decide whether to eat here or not. Right now we have reservation here and at the 50's cafe.

Well I can tell you that I was there last week and ate at both of those places and they both are a lot of fun. Although I think I'd pick 50's Prime Time food wise and desert wise but we can't help but love the atmosphere of Sci-Fi.

My 5 yo and 7 yo had no problems with the movies.
HOWEVER, we waited 35 mintues to be seated with an ADR, and our food took 1 hour and 5 minutes. Not all of the cars were full, and half of our meals were cold.
I was not very happy, to say the least! We were scheduled to go sign up for DVC and had to call to rearrange the transportation and everything.
Our guide called the restaurant and complained after we told him, and we were offered fast passes or disney dollars to compensate. We declined, we will just never eat there again!
