I'll be travelling to WDW in late August with DS11 and DD10. My wife will be staying home due to work reasons. I have never taken my kids to the Sci-Fi and think they would like it as we love going to the drive-in theater back home a couple of times each summer.

However I'm not sure if the seating will work out for us as a party of 3 as I remember the cars as being designed for 2 people each. So someone would end up sitting on their own (probably me) and it wouldn't be as much of a fun shared experience. Or maybe the kids would like the chance to have their own row and it would seem like some independence. This would of course assume that they would be in a good mood and not poking at each other and fighting as a brother and sister could do after a few long days in theme parks.

I know there's also the tables at the back, but I don't think this is really getting the full experience that makes the restaurant special.

Any thoughts from anyone that has done a party of 3? Any single parent/2 kid experiences here? OR any opinions in general?

This is a trip that I'm just pulling together now so the itinerary is still flexible.

My 2 boys sit in front of my husband I...still close enough to talk quietly in their ear if there were any shenanigans, but there never have been as they're so enthralled in the show. It is still a theater so families aren't really conversing too much. I say go for it, mine have always loved it & theyre 18 now. Enjoy your trip!

I agree with the PP. There really isn't much talking. That is what we love about Sci Fi. It is dark and quiet (except for the movie) and lastly Air Conditioned. After being in the hot park - to go to Sci Fi is a wonderful break. We have 4 kids so we mostly sit in the middle - 2 in front and 2 in back. You will love it. Plus we really enjoy the food.

As said above, this is by far the quietest meal you will have at WDW. Everyone is glued to the screen. They do have a couple of cars that are a big table and you face each other instead of the screen. We sat here on our first trip and I asked my husband, why is it so quiet in here? He said look to your left and I've never seen anything like it. People were just staring at the screen and not talking it was almost twilight zone ish. So I say go for it, our kids love it.

Thanks for the comments. I had also considered that after several days doing the 1 parent 2 kids thing in the parks in August it may actually be a nice break to sit them together in front of me in a dark and cool place and have a few quiet minutes in my own row while we all enjoy the show.

Not that I would just say "you're on your own kids", but some quiet time with a burger and a milkshake (or something stronger) while we all watch the big screen may help recharge a Dad's batteries after a week of one-on-one togetherness 24 hours a day. Know what I mean?
