I was hoping that someone could tell me about this restaurant? What is it like? Do you actually get to watch a movie? If so, is the whole restaurant watching the same movie? Is this a good place for 7 & 9 year old boys? Is the food good? We are trying to choose between Hollywood & Vine and Sci-Fi. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

IMO, this is the best themed restaurant at Disney, though the food can be hit or miss. Most guests dine in "cars" that all face a "drive in screen" that everyone views together. Short clips of old funny sci-fi films are shown - it's pretty dark in there, to resemble nighttime at a drivein. There are a few non-car tables, but you can always request a car at check in to make sure your family gets one instead.

Its not a place for conversation, with everyone facing hte same way and watching the films... But if you're anything like my family, we get tired of talking to each other on vacation, and the quiet break is nice =)

I think your boys would LOVE IT. Lunch food is best (their burgers are the best thing they have, IMO).

You can probably get pictures, and i know the menu, at www.allearsnet.com

=)

the sci-fi is set up like a1950s drive in. it is supposed to look like it's nighttime outdoors at a drivein. everyone eats in cars or at a few tables in the back near the "concession stand" and faces a large screen at the front of the restaurant. they show brief clips from hokey old sci-fi movies and drive-in commercials. its a really neat place. your boys should like it. :earboy2:

Indeed, Sci-Fi is one of the best themed restaurants in the World. DH and I just love it. The lunch food is nice, the shakes are excellent and the atmosphere is just cool.

Can anbody tell me what time they serve lunch till. I believe they don't have the burgers on the dinner menu.
Thanks
Tracy

Tracy, We'll be going in Dec. I really wanted to take our group to sci fi and I've finally decided to do this...
Go early and split meals (yes the burgers cause everyone says the rest of the food is...well, just to order the burgers.)
Then for dinner the fantasmic dinner package at hollywood and vine.
(my sneaky way of justifying both restaurants) ;)

We heard rather negative things about the food, but DS LOVES cheesy horror movies (Godzilla, King Kong, etc.) so we knew he would love Sci-Fi. When he was looking through my guidebooks he specifically said he wanted to go there. We had a PS for 5:00. We had a late lunch so DH and I just had desserts and DS had a burger, fries, and a shake. It was fine. Atmosphere was GREAT, server was very nice.

After Fantasmic we just went back to the resort and ate chicken strips. :)

i love the sci fi dine in, i think the food is pretty good, you shouldnt go in expecting world class food though, burgers and sandwiches are pretty good, i really just like the atmosphere, i always have a good time there

We love the Sci-Fi. Our food was fine both times...we stuck to the basics. We love the old movie clips--it always cracks me up how many people are so quietly watching the clips. DD and I have a blast mocking them and could never keep quiet there!

The reviews for the Sci Fi are not great. I booked as I wanted to try it anyway...it was great!

As I was travelling alone with my two boys sometimes they get bored very quickley and I have to gulp down my dinner. In here they actually sat and watched the little clips ( including Tom and Jerry) which meant I could have a relaxing meal !!

We will certainly be going back to this one in October !

Lunch - 11:00am - 4:00pm
Dinner - 4:00pm - Varies with park closing (subject to change without notice)

I thought I read somewhere that you can order burgers, fries and shakes during dinner hours even though they're not on the dinner menu. Can anyone confirm this?

yes, you can order burgers at dinner ... but they are not on the menu .. you have to ask ... usually eat there for lunch, but tried it for dinner in May and everything on the menu seemed too much, so asked and got a burger ... fun place to eat!

This is one of our favorites - I love the atmosphere. The food is fine, but keep in mind it is standard diner fare coupled with theme park pricing. We always do lunch rather than dinner, and it is a must do for us!!!

Thanks, Toadi...my family would like to eat here and we'd rather do burgers. I'll be calling for a PS on Monday!!

Just noticed the new smilies...cool!!

Thanks everyone! This has been quite helpful. I think we will try it out and remember to stick to the burgers! :sunny:

Your boys will absolutely LOVE eating at Sci-Fi over Hollywood and Vine.
My kids order the burgers.
I had the flat-iraon steak sandwich, which I loved.
The BEST onion rings too.
GO FOR IT!

I've been going to WDW for the past 5 years and never miss going to Sci-Fi D, its my favorite restaurant. Being a big sci-fi fan its a must for me. The food is hit or miss. I've had the burgers (which always seem to be good) and I tried their ham and swiss sandwich on pretzel bread which was wonderful but I went back the next year and ordered it and was very dissapointed, they changed the bread and it made all the difference. I also tried their pot sticker appetizers which was very good one time and bad another. So I now just stick to the burgers and I'm not dissapointed. The atmosphere of this place is the kicker! Your boys will love it! Have fun. ;)
