Schwans Home Delivery

Our orginal Schwann's guy was awesome, then the replacement was really creepy. WE have had a few different ones over the last couple of year. Haven't bought anything for a while (like 6 months) and can't get him to stop coming.

Prices are a little out there but I do like the cream cheese stuffed pretzels and my DH likes the mint chocolate chip cones.

I want the guy who sells steak out of the back of his truck to come by again. His steak was good and the prices were right !!

We used to get Schwans but we never told them when we moved. The food is good, but I've found a good replacement at the grocery store for each of what we used to get and there's not really much I'm missing. The prices are higher. Maybe not compared to full price in the grocery store, but using the Grocery Game, Schwans is way more than I pay now for chicken, pizzas, etc. And even if they didn't pressure me to buy each time they stopped, I'd feel guilty. In the end at least some weeks I'd end up buying something I didn't need. Now that the grocery budget for the 4 of us is $50 a week, there is no room for Schwans!

One solution for ordering only once a month or so: order online and tell your rep if there isn't an online order for you to not stop. That works for me.

My schwans man completely creeps me out. The food has all been good, but I would say all is expensive for what it is. We love the Chicken Kiev. The vegetables are all good. I like Breyers Ice cream better.

I agree about liking Breyers ice cream better. Plus, Breyers does NOT have HFCS and I believe Schwans ice cream contains HFCS (high fructose Corn Syrup).

Well a local rep stopped by again just last week but I didn't order anything. I like many of their items and am tempted by many more but I just can't justify the cost. To me, it seems much more expensive. THe one thing I really miss is their steam and serve brown rice. Comes in a little bag that goes in the freezer til you micro it. WHY does my brown rice never come out that yummy???

If you have a Whole Foods near you, they have the frozen rice (brown and white) in their freezer section!

My neighbor buys almost all their food from Schwans :scared1: and got my kids hooked on the choc chip ice cream sandwiches... man, those are GOOD!

To the PP who said you used coupons and got $50 in food for $20.. are there coupons for Schwans out there? Are there frequent sales too? If I could make it within a few dollars of making it myself, I might consider Schwans, but I think I'd need a discount to get there.

Have you tried Pea Pod? They offer several different grocery stores that they will deliver from and you can order online. Unfortunately, they do not offer this survice in Florida, but when I lived in Illinois I used them all the time. It was so easy to budget and you knew exactly what you were getting, no impulse buys that can break the bank.

I agree. I order Schwan's alot and I order online 100% of the time and I always tell the man (since it seems to be 1 of 3 guys that deliver to me), if they don't see an order from me on delivery day, don't stop by. I love their food though. The blackened chicken is good. My daughter loves their popsicles and I'm a lover of their spicy chicken fillets.

Now I must go place my order......LOL

I got a $10 off coupon from my driver, who is super nice, and there are sometimes coupons in the catalog when they're running promotions. Plus I made sure what I purchased was on sale and used the coupons.

I agree, I would rather go out! Some of the pre-made meals are higher in sodium and fat than I would like as well.

You have to watch restaurant meals, too. Check out Hungry Girl

My sister orders from there. They live in a rural area though.

Said you can get some good order ahead deals online.

I agree with a previous poster. This has helped us keep down on running out and getting fast food. The pot pies are good and quick to make. I like that I'm getting my meat from them and only have to go to the grocercy store for the staples.

I think I will tell the delivery people not to come unless an order is placed online. I always feel bad when I turn them away, I'm sure they work on some sort of commission, which is why they stop by regardless.

My Dh USED to work for Schwan. He would get 11% of his sales for 2 week time prior. This was his pay check no base pay what so ever. Things may have changed a bit but I'm sure not by much. He was working 14-16 hr days and on days off, spent 90% of it trying to get grocery shopping done, stuff fixed around house, lawn mowed etc. He had no time to go to DR, Dentist what have you without taking day off and there for losing pay.
I personally think prices have gotten way to expensive, food quality has gone down and in our case, it's a new driver every month because they can't keep anyone, and than we never know if they would show up or not. Granted we live in Rural area and houses are far apart so it's time consuming.

Schwans is a treat for us. I usually get their alfredo sauce about 1x mo. Anything else is extra. I will say that their fish is the best I've gotten. We buy the blue hake unbreaded fillets and they cook up very nicely as well as they are fairly reasonable.

There really isn't anything at Schwan's that we can't get at the grocery story. But, having a ready made meal sitting in my freezer is a nice fall back when we can't really cook for whatever reason. It keeps us from going out.

They recently started coming to our neighborhood and I thought I'd give them a try. I have him come every other week or once a month. I like the chicken pot pies, the individual pizzas, egg rolls, breaded green beans. I usually buy 2-3 items a visit so it's not too bad on the budget.

We have been long time customers. Some things aren't very healthy, but there are some good choices to be found. We just had some salmon grilled outside this evening. YUM! Yes, we could have eaten out, but sometimes you don't want to go out...but still want good food.

I used to buy from Scwann's about 20 years ago, and he would come into our office, we would place an order and he would go to our house and put the stuff in my freezer! Do they still do that? I remember most of it was pretty good- large quantities.

When I was working I used them. The driver would stop by our work every other week we were ready with our ice chests. This worked well for him and no one person ever felt pressured to order.

It is pricey, but I really liked the food.

Personal favorites were:
Cream cheese stuffed pretzels
the ice cream sundaes that you put in the microwave. ( brownie comes out hot and the ice cream is still frozen, amazing!)
prime rib. ( super fast, heat and serve. Yummy!)

I love a few things from Schwan and buy once a month. I buy their skinless, boneless chicken breasts. I have tried every brand in grocery stores and they don't stand up against schwans ones. They are tender and not stringy at all. Plus we love the crinkle cut fries, yummy. Like a grocery store, some products are overpriced and some are reasonable.
