Schwans Food

I love Schwans but way too expensive. I have found that they make alot of name brand items like Red Baron & I think Blue Bunny Ice Cream off the top of my head.

My favorites are:
Spicy Chicken Breast ( excellent on a sandwich)
fries
Chicken Pot Pies ( I get these for my kids, I dont' eat them, too fattening but they are good!)
not sure what they are called but the frozen dinners single serving, my hubby has been taking these to work and say they are really good
low fat ice cream
cream cheese stuffed pretzel bites

Used to order from them too but I was inconsistant so they stopped delivering to me. They do have the very best ice cream and the variety is nice - my dh loves their ice cream but it is expensive - I could spend $30 just on ice cream...

They used to have these pb&j pretzel bites years ago and they were awesome for my then toddlers. I still miss those pretzels....

They also have good chicken strips but they are pricey so I didn't order those much.

A PP said that Schwans makes Blue Bunny ice cream? that interesting cuz so far BB ice cream is what is closest in taste and consistancy to Schwans. Good to know.

I loved the food too, but just couldn't justify the cost. I wish they knew how much more they could sell if they just lowered that a bit.

RIP old chicken patties, they were the best. They changed the recipie and they are not as good now.

I've heard this on a couple of other random threads here and there. These were my FAVORITE growing up - chicken patty night at my house was always a hit because these were so good! If they were the same, I would probably order Schwan's - but I don't dare to try the newer kind.

I would love to have one of those Silvermint bars - they were alway the best!

I order one or two things at a time. It is convienient for me, because it is just DH and I. Some of our favorite things:

Fire baked pizzas (we make them on the grill, not as good from the oven)
Choc Fudge Brownie frozen yogurt (creamy and good)
Triple Lemon frozen yogurt (very refreshing)
Plain chicken breasts(they are packaged separately which is convienet for us)
Fiesta Lime Chicken

It is a bit more expensive, but for us, we really like the flavors of frozen yogurt...and to us it tastes more like ice cream.

I've ordered a few times from them. The people down the street get stuff regularly so sometimes I'll catch him to get those Mint Chocolate Chip Sundae cones. We've ordered other stuff before but not so much anymore.... that stuff is some of THE most unhealthy food out there....it's nothing but preservatives and additives, and most everything has trans-fats as well.

Someone always has to kill the party being the ingredient police!

I LOVE the Ice Cream Pizza they came out with this summer. But you have to read the box and let it soften for 10 minutes, or you can't bite through the cookie.
My DS loves the breakfast pizza minis
DH loves their sherbet- I have to remind him to pace himself because the guy only comes every 2 weeks.
And my favorite is the black cherry yogurt- it tastes like real ice cream. drizzle some chocolate shell on the top top of it...heaven!

I've been having schwans come for quite a few years now and have tried many of their items. When my husband goes out of town on business, I buy their meals because they are quick and easy, and my kids love them. Last time we got the turkey and mashed potatoes, and tried the chili-mac for the first time.
We almost always have their multi-grain bread loaves, popcorn shrimp & chicken pot pies in our freezer.
I sometimes buy stuff for lunches, like pizzas, quesadillas, etc.
And occaisionally I'll buy some of their Bright Starts breakfast items.
Their baby bakers potatoes are good, and my kids love their steam bag carrots.
I try not to buy the desserts or white bread items, but when I do they are pretty good. I know lots of people buy their ice cream, but that's not something I think is worth paying extra for.
It's all good. If it's between getting something from there or going out for dinner, something from there is cheaper than going out. Sometimes the convenience is worth it. And some things, like their popcorn shrimp & pot pies, are just higher quality than I can find in the grocery store. It definitely is cheaper to eat schwans popcorn shrimp than all of us heading out to Red Lobster.
I've only ever been disappointed in a few items. I bought blueberry muffins, and they had hardly any blueberries. We got some chicken legs that were more fatty than usual. And there was one flavor of frozen yogurt that just wasn't that good.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering how healthy some of these foods are, even though a few of them sound tasty. I don't think I'll bother looking into this any further (we had an ad in our Sunday paper and it started getting me curious).

I don't order from them for this very reason... A lot of the stuff they sell isn't healthy! And I am not a health nut, I just feel that I can make smarter shoices at the grocery store.

Same here. I'm no where near a health nut, but I prefer to eat fresh food that isn't loaded with preservatives whenever I can.

If that means spending half an hour at the grocery store a week, oh well.

And for the amount and quality you get, their food is way overpriced.
