Schools are closed here today, are yours?

St. Pat's is such a huge deal here that years ago they started to make it a holiday from school because no one would show up-they would all be at the parade! When we moved here 5 years ago and found this out, we were very confused. Savannah has the 2nd largest St. Pat's day parade in the country behind NYC. Does NYC close it's schools on St. Pat's Day? Anyone else?

Oh, HRH, I attended Savannah's public schools from '81-'94. Yup, always had St. Patty's Day off.

Don't forget to kiss a BC cadet.

The Savannah St. Patrick's Day parade is awesome!

I love learning things on these threads. I would have never thought schools in Savannah would be closed. I think it's really interesting!

I also think it's really interesting that Augusta coincides its spring break with the Masters. I know about people renting their homes out, as there are many that do it here in Ohio for the Memorial Golf (PGA) Tournament.

Minniebeth...the road that Augusta National is on (Washington Rd), is one of the main raods in Augusta. Lots of shops/restaurants/ect. Traffic is IMMOBILE in this area as the "National" is located in the city. The ticket scalper busses who advertise "Need Master's tickets" have already shown up and are parked in hotel/gas station lots down Washington Rd. I worked in retail a few years ago in Augsuta, and YOU COULD NOT TAKE TIME OFF (unless you were the big boss -- however I was gonna get my Disney trip, oh yes). It's a good week for sales.

No, not out of school (except DH20 and DD18 are out of college for spring break) but it is totally messing my my Y&R that I usually get to see at lunch! I don't care if there's a green parade!! I want my Y&R!!!!:headache:

your husband is 20 and your dd is 18????:confused3

Nope. Here we have the big main parade downtown the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day. The Ancient Order of Hibernians has a separate parade today (this morning) through Dogtown, which is an area of St. Louis that was settled by mostly Irish immigrants back in the day. :thumbsup2

I just went outside to watch the NYC St Patty's parade. Being that it was one of the first nice days we've had, I've never seen it so crowded.

Even tough schools are open, I think the attendence at the high schools had to be very low today. :)
