We are planning a trip the week of April 25 to WDW. We also have family that works for Disney and asked if they wanted to meet up with us one one of our days in the parks (since they get in for free since they work for Disney.) They just told us that the week of April 25 is blacked out for employees to use the free passes. I live in NH, so I know NH schools are on vacation that week, but does anyone know what other states may have vacation the week of April 25-29? Thanks

I am in CT and our week where I live is the week before. I know part of our state has the week before us (ending on Friday the 15th).

We're in NY and our break is that same week, however many other states (especially out of the Northeast) have break much earlier, like in March, so while I'm sure it'll still be crowded, I can't imagine that it'll be the busiest spring break week.

Our particular school district is not giving the whole week off. Just Friday and Monday for Passover. Most LI districts and NYC are giving that week off.

In this area, spring breaks centers around the Easter and Passover holidays. This year they are so far apart it is a little different.

Our Spring Break is March 21-25th. Such a wide variety of dates!

I saw a mention on another part of the DIS that speculates the employee blackout for that week having to do with the possible but still unannounced opening of River of Lights at Animal Kingdom.

I'm in NH and our vacation week is the 18-22. We check out the 24th.

April 2-10 here... Our Break always lines up with a certain golf tournament in our city.

The Southeast is mainly in March or early April, so that helps with crowds considerably. My nephews are in Maine and their spring break is the week before yours.

You must live very close to me. :)

Why would a school have a week off that late in April when Easter is in March?

School districts around here don't have Spring Break. We have the Thursday, Friday, and Monday around Easter off. That's it.

For Passover. Because none of them are actually technically related to holidays in any way (because it's a public school), there are technically 2 spring breaks.

Many (most?) schools have spring breaks that do not have any connection to Easter. They are a set week (ex. second week of March or third week of April) regardless of when Easter falls.

As far as it being in late April, some districts in the Northeast have a week off for February break so Spring break is always toward the end of April to spread the two breaks farther apart.

It's not "Easter break", it's "SPring break" and here in New England, many years if Easter falls early, it's still very much winter, not 'spring'. But our school calendar is such that our kids go to school until mid-late June, depending on how many snow days we've had. If Spring Break were in late March, going to school all the way to late June would be a very long time without a break. The year my daughter graduated (2014), there were something like 11 snow days, and the last day of school wasn't until June 28th.

Not all schools do it the same way. In the southeast, it's usually ONE break. Some schools have this near Easter. It's always the first week of April where I am though - which does happen to fall after Easter this year. I grew up in the Northeast and still have many relatives there. They always have a Feb break and an April break.

Easter is a religious holiday so there's no reason why schools need to give off near it. Some do just because they want to give a spring break anyway and they realize some families may want more time off then, especially during holy week. But for places that already have a spring break, they give off no or little extra time near Easter.

My daughter's college "spring break" is the first week of March. It's still winter. But yeah, "Spring Break" was never a thing in my area. I'm not sure if other parts of Pennsylvania do it, but Eastern PA does not give kids a week off at all during the spring.

Our public schools are not closed for Good Friday (though it is a half day) or Passover. We have a week off in February the week of President's Day. We also have a week off in April the same week as the Boston Marathon/Patriots Day. In NH when I lived there Feb and April vacation weeks were based on bank holidays (not that I ever knew what that meant). Religion was never the reason for the Feb and April vacation weeks.
