School supplies Thread

I was at Target on Saturday and they had a pack of 5 one-subject spiral notebooks for 50 cents. Not as good of a deal as Walmart but since my nearest Walmart is more than 30 minutes away while Target is 10 minutes away, it just wasn't worth it to me, gas-wise, to drive to the Walmart to save 75 cents on 15 notebooks (which is how many I bought)

I also got a pack of 24 count Crayola crayons for 34 cents.

Don't forget ALOT of stores will price match if you have an ad from the other store & it's an advertised sale. I know Walmarts ad had the $0.05 notebooks advertised in the flyer I got in Sundays paper. Might be worth a shot for the difference in price :thumbsup2

Is 2 for $12 a good deal for 1-1/2 inch binders? This is at Office Max.

Thanks,
Maggie

OK. I will answer my own question above. I found that Walgreens had 1-1/2 to 3 inch binders for $3.99. Although, they only had black and white in the 1-1/2 inch size and my younger DD needs black, blue, green and red. So I only picked up the black one. My older DD (high school) needed some 3 inch and 2 inch binders, so this was a great price for those too! They are really expensive at Office Depot, etc. And they are decent Oxford brand quality.

I made the rounds this morning. I have an Office Depot, Walgreens and KMart a couple blocks from each other, so I hit all three. Here is what I got:

Office Depot
1 cent plastic folders
15 cent filler paper
free after rebate calculator (for spare at home, the girls have specific ones they need for school)

Walgreens
5 cent mechanical pencils
5 cent highlighter
free after rebate markers (20 pack thin, for spares at home)
free after rebate Pilot pens
cloth pencil case
1-1/2 in, 2 inch and 3 inch binders
39 cent pack highlighters
.99 crayola colored pencils (I know they are cheaper .88 at Target, but there was nothing else there I needed)

Kmart
5 for $1 glue stick twin pack
30 of the .09 spiral notebooks (these are perforated too, which is what DD is required to get)

There were 2 other ladies that I saw at the same stores! They were making the rounds too!!!

I got the 1 1/2 inch binders last week at staples for 1 cent and I think they are foing it again today there or office depot...I got about 8 of them.

I hit Walgreens got
3 Hi Liters at 5c
5 folders at 5c
5packs of mech. pencils at 5c
4 mini hard cover note books at 5c
They were out of some stuff
KMart
20 pronged folders at 9c
Target
2 2pk erasers 20c
1 20 pk pens69c
Am now looking for scissors and rulers at less than 20c,
Forgot KMart had stretchy book covers for 50c I got 4 ,
Also need filler paper but cheapest I've seen is 50c and I know I can get it for less'
Target also sharpeners I think they were 20c

I went to Office Max and Walmart today. Some of the good deals were:

Office Max:
mini sharpies .10
mini highlighter .01
binders .25
composition books .50
glue sets (one tube and 2 sticks) .25 or .50 (can't remember now)

Walmart:
notebooks .05
glue sticks 2pk .22
crayons .22
colored pencils .88
book covers .74
rulers .74

The notebooks at Walmart were going fast. I buy them to use for our kids throughout the year. I usually have one in the car with crayon for DS to draw while DD is at her hobbies etc.

I still have to go to Staples, but mine is further away so it will wait until tomorrow. I hope they're not all out by then...

I think those were 1" and the poly kind. The ones I got were 1-1/2 in, 2 in and 3 inch and are the hard plastic kind. I did pick up a few of the poly ones from Staples just to have on hand too!

My DDs school is very specific with their lists and the binders MUST be 1-1/2 inch and certain colors.

2 pk elmer's glue sticks and crayola 24 pk crayons .22 a piece.

I thought I would start a single thread that we could use to post inexpensive finds on School Supplies.

Staples has several items for a penny:
2 pocket paper folders (limit 10)
8pk of #2 yellow pencils (limit 2)
Purell .5 oz bottles (limit 2)

Staples for a quarter:
Poly assorted binders (limit 4)

Staples for free after rebate:
4pk of retractable assorted highlighters (limit 1)

I have heard that Walmart has crayons, markers, colored pencils, paints, etc on sale, but I don't have exact prices.
Someone posted on another thread Super Wal-mart had the 70 page, spiral one subject notebooks for 5 cents each.

Target $1 spot has reusable lunch bags and sandwich savers for $1. They also had some pkgs of fancy erasers for $1.

Anyone else??

:teacher:

DH and I have not children but love these sales. We go to them to get all the stuff and then donate it to a local charity for kids who cannot afford anything for back to school.

For many of these kids it is the only way they will ever get a new item for school.

We can run to WalMart when we are out and get the 5 cent notebooks, but their mom's have not way to get there and they cannot afford the ones in their area (usually way over priced).

So if anybody has extras or can afford to buy a few extras, please consider giving your surplus to a local charity (mission, salvation army, inner city school etc.) so that others can have the same happy feelings that your kids will have when they use those new Crayola crayons!

Has anyone seen Dry Erase Markers on sale anywhere? How about Fiskar Kids' Scissors?

Thanks!!
