School starts TOMORROW!! Are we the first?

My grandson starts Aug. 14. This is central Indiana.

My DS started August 7. And yes, we have A/C here. The reason our kids start so early is so Christmas break marks the end of the first semester so they don't have to worry about studying for exams after the long holiday. They can truly enjoy their vacation without having to worry about homework or studying!

Three nephews went back on Monday, 8/5. Several others went back on yesterday, 8/8.

Mine start back the 19th, so we have one more week off. And YES, everything in the south is airconditioned. Are schools up north not? I guess you don't need it?

Our schools started Wednesday (August 7), and will finish next year May 21. The next county over started last Friday (August 1).

Like Disfan1, we're on a semester system, with block scheduling in the high schools. DS will have completed 4 credits towards graduation before Christmas.

And yes, all the schools are air-conditioned, although some weren't until 1992-3 (funding was tied up in a lawsuit. ).

My DD started on July 30th... I just keep thinking to myself... 2 weeks down... I really miss her when she is gone... She is off today though! It is their offficial "day off so the kids can attend the IL State Fair" day...

DD's school starts on Wed. Sept. 4. They were in school until June 18th though. There are also some schools in the area that do the "year round" thing. Don't know if I would like that.

A lot of the schools still don't have air-conditioning. But, it does get pretty darn hot here....especially this summer.

First day of school for NYC public schools is September 5.

It gets VERY hot here. Not all of the schools have AC.

We are on "traditional" schedule and Emily started her first day of "big school" - kindergarten yesterday, August 8. She was so brave and came home just bubbling over with information on all she did. We get out in mid-May which is nice, but still it's hard to go back in August. We have air conditioning in all our schools.

My 3 boys all started on July 22nd-- year round schedule. I love this school, it is a public charter school and is just wonderful!

The schools in my area go back on August 19th, they finished up for the Summer on June 28th.

Michael starts school Monday, August 12th and I STOP paying a fortune for keeping him in a camp!!

My kids start back on Sept 4th. The elementary school in our district is not air conditioned but the middle school, where 2 of my kids will be going, is. I remember 2 years ago when the kids didn't have any snow days but were released twice due to the extreme heat! Maybe the district better rethink the a/c issue!!

DD goes back 9/3, Wisconsin passed a new law saying that schools have to start after Labor Day unless the district gets permission to start earlier. The last day will be June 6th. I love summer vacation, and it is great having the kids home all day. At least DS will be around a little more this school year, since he graduated. I would home-school DD but she loves the social interaction she gets at school.

Both my kids are going to NEW schools. Not only do they have a/c, but since the schools are expansion instead of replacement, EVERYTHING is new.
