DD brought home her order info for her class ring. She's only a sophomore. I don't remember ordering mine until late in my junior year.

Is this the new normal?

And the rings sure are nicer than back when I got mine.:D

They now order them in their sophmore year. I guess so they can wear them longer. I agree they are so much nicer now. You can even choose your sport/interest /major.

Funny, I was just looking at some jewelry and cleaned my ring from HS. We also ordered ours sophomore year. It was very nice to have it to wear Junior & Senior year (and didn't feel like such a waste of money)

I got mine the endo fo sophmore year. That was a long time ago I graduated in 1977. However my DS who is a senior ordered theirs at the beginning of the freshman year( how wore it the day he received it and has been in the box in his drawer since-makes me not want to let my DS 13 order one next year-but I know I can't be that way)

My DS in tenth grade brought home the information here. Yes, there are many, many more choices than what I had....and much pricier too!!! He has no interest in one what so ever, so I saved myself a few hundred dollars!! Now I will have to wait until next year when DS #2 is in tenth grade to hear his opinion.

I ordered mine the beginning of junior year and had it by Thanksgiving. But, my best friend goes to a different school a couple towns over and she got hers around Christmas sophomore year. So it really varies by school.

I got mine the fall of my senior year in high school, and I just traded it in for my college ring (which I like MUCH better.). I'll actually wear my college ring -- it's much more understated and I just like it better. I think I wore my high school ring up until graduation; it's been sitting in the box since.

Found a picture of my college ring!

That's the norm around here. DD ordered hers as a soph. and DS just ordered his in September as a soph. DD also ordered her college ring last year as a soph.

When I was in HS, we also ordered them soph. year.

We ordered in Junior year and had a "Ring dance" instead of a junior prom. Rings were handed out there and if you didn't go to the dance you got them in school.

DD is a junior and just brought home the info...WOW are they expensive. DD would rather spend the money on paying for her AP class in French to earn some college credits. PLUS we can always go on-line and order her ring whenever we want to.

I graduated in 86 and I got mine my sophmore year. Actually, I believe you can order them ANY year. Heck, you can go to a jewelry store and order them at any time. :)

My son is a Senior this year. He got his ring in Sophomore year. I would like to suggest walmart.com as an option. The ring was quite a bit cheaper than the one offered through the school and it was perfect.

My parents took a different route for my "class ring". Instead of ordering one from the places the advertise on campus, they took me to a jewelry store. I picked out a ring with my birthstone that I liked that was in the same price range as a class ring would have been. We bought it in 1987, start of senior year, and I still wear it regularly. It is a great investment and treasure from my parents I enjoy wearing almost daily.

DH and I did not get class rings. Neither of us are jewelry fans.

DD (who graduated from HS in June) is a jewelry fanatic - but - the rings didn't appeal to her, so she didn't order one.

DS is a sophomore and they had to order rings last week. He left his order form in his backpack and had no desire to get one.

DS ordered his in his sophmore year which was last year. He got his ring this week in his junior year. We have always done it that way as far as I can remember.

I think I ordered mine the beginning of sophomore year so that I could wear it longer. Since graduation it has been sitting in a box. I still think it was well worth the money. I hope to hand it down to my children. I wore both my dad's and my grandma's class ring when I was in highschool. I did get a *graduation ring* that took my class ring's place. I still wear that.

I like the idea of bringing kids to a jewelry store to buy a ring instead of getting a class ring. That is something they will wear much longer. But if a kid wants a class ring and they can afford it, then they should get it. (I think my ring was my Christmas present or something)

My daughter is a sophomore and we just ordered hers. I think it's a good idea to have them earlier so they get some use out of them. I know I never wore mine once I got out of high school.

What amazed me was the price of them. We paid over $220 for a ring that is silver "lustrium". It's not even sterling silver, just some cheap metal that is a silver color. I think Jostens is pretty much the only company that makes the rings, so there isn't much competition.

I ordered mine at a local jewelry store. It looked exactly like all the other class rings but was cheaper and had more things I wanted in it. They put my initials in the actual stone (which was my birthstone) and my mom had a note ingraved in the back of it from her. It is very lovely and I wore for a few years. I'm not a big jewlery person and will pass it on to my children or grandchildren someday.
