ok...read this whole thread!! This teacher is rude. Hope everything went well for the OP today.... can't wait for an update!

I'm a college student and have gone through this all of high school and now college of teachers or professors missing work. Our Comp 2 professor would "misplace" our term papers! Every year I would have this problem with at least one teacher. My problem now, being in college, is that our grades can be seen online and our teachers don't post them the whole quarter! I sometimes don't know what I've gotten on a test or quiz....its very frustrating!

Sorry I didn't post this morning. Crazy day.

My husband and I both met with the counselor. Although nothing has been resolved I am happy with the the way the meeting went. His counselor set up a meeting with she and the teacher for this afternoon to discuss the situation. If the teacher doesn't contact me by tomorrow I am to call the English department head. Apparently the department head will then guide the teacher in how to best resolve this. The counselor said a "D" was unacceptable and that when a students grade slips contact should have been made prior to quarter ending. Also, the progress report should have stated the same and it didn't.

So, without coming straight out and saying it, the counselor indicated that many steps werent taken that should have been. She wants the teacher to have an opportunity to address them all. She also indicated that it looks like the work was misplaced or lost and that the teacher isnt taking ownership of that

My son has a concert now so I will post more later as few other things were also addressed but I wanted to reply asap.

Oh, nice update! The school is addressing all of your concerns, and although you don't have resolution yet, it sounds like it's coming.

I'm so happy to hear the counselor agrees that a D is not acceptable. It's not like your DS has been doing D-level work all year.

I'm glad you went to bat for your DS! It sounds like he did everything he could but this was one of those situations that required a parent to intervene.

The saving papers IMO is kind of ok, but the teacher can still come back and say the kid could be faking the paper and it was not done in time. (Think it hasn't happened? Think again.) But e-mailing the paper to the teacher? (I would also be cc'ing yourself)... This, THIS, is a beautiful end-game solution. Everyone who has this issue with a teacher, take NOTICE and do it.

Actually, as a college professor who IS a bit disorganized, I LOVE students who email me their papers and cc themselves. Thus, if there is any confusion or problem, I can just look back at my emails from them or they can forward the "cc" copy they sent themselves. I also save all emails from students for the entire year. Because I never delete them, I can re-check if there's an "issue." This practice has absolutely saved me and my students.

Write the "thank you for the meeting, I look forward to hearing from Ms XXX) email NOW. While it is all fresh in mind. Polite, but firm. You can save it as a draft, walk away for a while, then come back to it and send.

I hope this next update is "all is resolved, son has his A".

Any updates? I hope this was resolved with at least a B grade, if not an A.

Just thinking about this situation this morning...after DD sent off an English paper via email last night. I am now having her print out the "sent" notice she gets, as well as keeping them in a folder....just in case of computer problems. Those sophmore and junior year grades are so important to college admissions!
