But people here at work (mostly thoses with no kids, or adult children) are complaining!! We got about 2 inches of snow overnight, but on its way it sleet, freezing rain, and heavy snow. It is predicted to start in about an hour. I can totally see why the kids are not in school. When my husband was driving to work today, cars were in the ditch all over the place. I almost took a digger walking from my parking spot into work. I just don't get that why people it doesn't effect are complaining about it?? I would prefer my kids have school, but not at the expense of their safety!!

some people just like to complain
i would rather my kids be safe than hurt
my son fractured his leg and it was a HUGE part of our year last year
i freak out when its bad because i am scared he wil fall and reinjure his leg

I think our schools do a good job judging whether the kids need to stay home. Yes, they make mistakes, but they can only rely on the information they have on the weather, which isn't always perfect. Tell those complainers to mind their own business. Would they rather have the buses taking kids home later when the roads are even worse?

Our kids are in school, no early release yet but we are supposed to have blizzard conditions later today, it will just be a matter of when. I LOVE snow days especially this time of year when it is fairly warm and you can play outside all day in the snow!!!

No schools open here in SE MN and NE IA.

Got a couple inches last night and some wintry crud, expectinging a lot more snow today. 2nd storm in a week. It's getting old.

herc.

I think they judge pretty well too. They know what they are doing, that is why they have the postion they have.

The snow is starting again here in the SW Twin Cities metro. We got a couple inches of icy snow last night. DH and I are both working from home today since we each drive 40+ miles. It's not worth it.

Quite a few stayed home from work today - some with kids, some not.

I agree that the school districts are usually pretty careful about the decision to close school for the day. I think it was the right thing to do today. People just like to be crabby sometimes.

I don't necessarily agree with this. Here in Northern Virginia my dd has missed school seven days in five weeks. One day they closed because snow was predicted. We actually ended up with less than an inch. This past Sunday there was a storm that ended by about 1:30 pm. I had my walk, drive, and sidewalk shoveled out by 12:30pm. The plows came through shortly thereafter and there was a big warm-up that night. There was next to nothing on the road Monday morning yet school was closed as of Sunday at 5. There was NO reason for the closure.

I understand why people complain. I complain about this. I grew up in NY. It took a lot of snow and ice to close schools. If the roads were rough you adjusted by leaving earlier and driving slower. If you were a walker you watched your step. I was speaking to my neighbor who grew up in PA - it was the same for her. These days it seems schools close simply to avoid the possibility of a lawsuit if some child slips on their way to school. It's ridiculous.

No school here and they are going to extend the blizzard warning to us here because the wind is picking up. I've got about 9 inches and we got 6 over the weekend. We are expected to get a foot or so before it's done. Last night when I went to bed they were saying 4 inches! Big difference!
