School I.Ds.

Yes. The only reason I can think of is because when we go to buy the actual textbooks, they swipe our card and look at our schedule to show us what books to buy. Like for freshman english I (for example) there are about 10 different books or combinations of books that we might need, depending on the section we're in and instructor we have.

Also, if you spend $100 you get a $5 credit or a free t-shirt. So, our ID is kind of necassary to easily keep track of our purchases.

You could probably go in there and buy things without an ID, but it's just easier for the students to do it this way. :)

oh that makes sense. our class section is listed under the books on the shelves, to differentiate between which teachers want which books. if you have your schedule, they can help you. you can also pay 5.00 and they'll put all your books in a box for you, and you just pick up your box and pay for everything at the counter.

we don't use it for anything.
they just give you one in 6th grade and you don't do anything with it.
it's kind of useless.

We use them for dorms (which I'm not even in anymore), and food purchases at the student union. I rarely use mine anyone.

We have to rely on the people working there to get our books. They keep them in the back of the store and just bring them out to you. It's kind of irritating and great at the same time.

Jenny, that must be nice!! I just spent, about $600 on books and our bookstore is pretty much useless. I had to buy all new which was a pain. There werent any used left. :headache:

my school has 23k undergrad, i think the bookstore people would quit if they had to individually bring everyone their books! lol

my books were 300.00 this semester.

Ours are for buying lunch but the principal says we should always have ours so faculty can check if were a student or an 'intruder' if were roaming the halls.

Oh, I hate when that happens! My humanities book is a new edition this year, so they didn't have any used yet. It made me so mad!

It's not that bad. Our bookstore starts selling fall books early august, so people kind of slowly funnel in, instead of a huge rush right when school starts. There is a rush, but it isn't that bad. And the people there really know their stuff, it only takes a few minutes for them to come out with your books.

I spend about $500 on books. HOW are your books so cheap? Mine are only as cheap as $500 because (luckily) most of them happen to be little paperback things. Last spring they were about $650. And I always buy used if it's available. A lot of the time you can find used books that look brand new. Then I always sell them back at the end of the semester, but I only get a couple hundred for it, if that.

We really only used them in high school for checking out library books.

In college they are more important. I don't live on campus though so the only thing I use it for is getting on the internet in the library or checking out books.

My school has 36,000 undergrad (last I checked) and my freshman year when I ordered books through the bookstore I had to stand and wait forever for them to bring my package of books!

our book store is bigger than some of my lecture halls.

in the front, there's four or five chashiers, and then after that there's clothing and crap like that, then in the back there's two rows of book shelves going horizontally across the store, and all the books are sitting on the shelves (which are taller than i am.) they're labeled by class section (like i'm in psychology 1410-003, i look for the book in the psych section labeled "003")

you can reserve your books, and they'll be in a big box, and you have to wait in line to get your box (its faster to just go get them yourself.)

there's also one desk that will help you, if you don't know how to buy books, but other than that, the only time you really talk to anyone in the store is to check out.

we just finished our first week of class, and its impossible to get into the book store at this point, its mobbed from open to close with people buying books.

I guess I'm lucky. I just ordered my books online from the school bookstore and picked them up, no line and no worry. Maybe I was able to do that because school hasn't started.
