Not that we're into planning, but I have family coming from the UK to visit us. We're planning a family visit to WDW in October of 2007, Me, DP, DDIL. DSIL and grandson.

I want to surprise them with a Disney Cruise.

My question is, does anyone know what the October 2007 school term break for Bristol? I know they will come the week before term break stars.

I've looked online, but what's published on the Bristol school district site doesn't go that far out. Would I be safe in planning that the school break would be 29th to Nov 1st?

I can't give you Bristol's but Surrey where I work in a school are the week before ie break up Friday 20th Oct (1st day of holiday Sat 21st Oct), back to school Monday 29th Oct (last day of holiday Sun 28th Oct) based on this I'm not sure you can safely bet on them being free 28th - 1st.

Thanks for the reply. This is going to be more challenging than I thought. I suppose I could just come out and ask them, but the whole DCL cruise is meant to be a complete surprise, that I am planning on springing on them when they come to Chicago in November, for Thanksgiving.

I know that in October 2007 they are planning to come for 2 weeks, incorporating the week before the school holiday.

Was to do the cruise before WDW, followed by 7 or 8 nights staying at VWL. This would be the first trip to WDW for them and our grandson, so I am trying to make it very special.

Until a few years ago, school breaks were the same nationwide. I think if you've found the dates for this October, you can fairly safely say it will be the same week in 2007. However, I'm not certain that all schools in Bristol will necessarily have the same week for October half-term. Does the school have its own website?

Can I be your friend? ;)

This link seems to suggest that, for this year, the Bristol schools will break for October half term on Friday, 20 October and return to school on Wednesday, 1 November. I imagine this is the link you've already found.

I live in the county immediately north of Bristol (Gloucestershire) and the dates are the same for our schools. The county immediately south of Bristol (North Somerset) also has the same dates.

I think you're safe to assume that it will be the same week in 2007.

I would still check to be absolutley sure, last year our half term was about October 24th 2005,as it had been for the previous 2 years, but this October its almost a week later and starts on October the 30th. Im sure they release the dates for 2007/2008 at the end of May this year.

October half - term is a movable holiday & for something important I wouldn't depend on this years dates.

I'd e-mail the educaion authority

Our local authority (London Borough of Barnet) do not issue the next year's school holidays until July. I know this as every year I get into protracted correspondence with them for the same reason. I too wish to book a Cruise trip for 2007 but thought 11 months would be okay. This could be just DVC though.

Last night I sent off an email to the contact I found for the website where I found the Bristol school holiday information to begin with. They gave me the email address for school admissions, so I hope they can give me the dates.

Planning a surprise can sure take a lot of energy! :rotfl:

I never thought I'd ever plan anything this far in advance, but, I've witnessed first hand how the prices change. We have a cruise booked for December 2006, a double and a single cabins for under $1800. I booked this past December. The same booking today would be considerably more.

Since, this cruise is our treat, we'd rather book early and at least try to pay a little less.

Fingers crossed that Bristol will come through for me today.

Hope you managed to get this sorted. It is a shame some authorities do not publish holidays in advance as I know from an EIS contact (teachers union in Scotland) that some places have a 3 year agreement so they also know in-services as well as term days.

I heard back today from Bristol school admissions. They told me that within the next 4 weeks they would be posting the 2007/2008 school holidays on their web site.

I must have given them fodder for a good laugh today. I can imagine their surprise at receiving an email from some American in Chicago, wanting to know the school holiday schedule nearly 2 years from now!

I've decided to go ahead and book the sailing on 21 October 2007, and then I can always change it if the holidays change.

I don't want any of you lot rushing out and booking up all the ships for October either! :rotfl2:
