You know, we'd been thinking when the best time to take the kids out of school to go was, since we won't go during the summer holidays, and we realized, nobody ever does stuff really important right before winter break or summer break, at least not at the elementary levels.
It's like the teachers are already on mental break a week before hand. This year we went down the week before memorial day, and both girls got back to school for the last two days of school. They didn't miss anything, because nothing was due since it was almost the end of school, and they got to say goodbye to their friends and teachers. We were pretty happy with how well that worked.
We're switching from private to public school this fall and know that we've got a 10 days of unexcused absences rule to deal with, and we think it'll still work, take the 5 days in early december, late october or jan, take the other 5 days right before school gets out.
We're obsessives when it comes to avoiding crowds...
