Scholastic Book Warehouse Sale New Castle, DE

The fine print on the ad seems like parents are not welcome. It says "Warehouse Sales are exclusive to Book Fair Chairpeople & Volunteers, Registered Homeschoolers, and School Personnel; Principals, Administrators, Faculty, Teachers, Librarians, and Media Specialists. "

What a bummer. My autistic ds is finally starting to read and I'd love to purchase a bunch of books for him at a discount. :confused3

I know that fine print is there, but I don't think they enforce it at all. I've been to several locally (I homeschool my son) and my best friend was with me once -- she signed in and shopped, and she doesn't homeschool. So maybe it's not that big a deal? :confused3

If you can go at all, do it!! I always pre-register and get the $10 off $50 coupon thinking I won't use it and I always do!! And be prepared to spend a good few hours there ... there's so much to see!!

I attend the warehouse sale in Delaware every year and I have NEVER had my "credentials" checked. I do volunteer at my kids' school library so in the past I've just registered under the school's name. However this time when I went to register and print my coupon (new email address), there was no place for me to put school information. I just checked "parent" on the online form! I think they're just collecting data about who goes----whether they get more parents than teachers etc.

I'll be at the sale tomorrow morning! Hoping for some good Spanish language books to add to the stuff we've gotten for our parish's Hispanic Ministry program, plus books for my kids and maybe a few crafty-type stocking stuffers.

The sale is going on right now where I live, too. I was there today, yesterday, and will go back tomorrow. Everytime you go, they give you a $5 off coupon to spend on your next visit, so I keep going back. There are thousands of books from baby/toddler up to high school and adult.

They have NEVER checked or asked me before (I am a teacher though). When I went yesterday and checked out, the cashier asked me for my shopping cart fast pass. I didn't have it because I didn't check my email. She just scanned a code from a piece of paper that she had behind the counter and then checked me out. No big deal.

They have the 50% off sales every December and again in May. I even found some great books for myself and great stocking stuffers for the kids (all of those toys and gadgets they sell at the school bookfairs that everyone complains about). I even picked up stuff to put in birthday party treat bags later this year.

I went to ours last week. One big thing that has changed that upset me a bit was that the specially marked $2 & $5 books are no longer 50% off & neither are purchases from the Bargain aisle. They changed the bargain aisle too. It use to be 'Fill a Box for $40' & then you got 50% off the $40 so it was $20. This time, they had each item marked seperately (books $2-$6 were $2, etc) & it wasn't 50% off.

So, it was still a good deal but not as good as I've found in the past. I went ahead & bought the items but I will be checking before I make my purchases next time.

If you feel guilty about going to the warehouse sale you can also look at the community sale page and find a sale in your area that is 50% off. I just went to one at our local high school yesterday and got $150 worth of books for $75. I am dying to tell the kids what I got them, but am going to wrap them for under the tree instead.

I was a bit disappointed with the Delaware sale this morning. No $1 damaged section, no really inexpensive stocking-stuffer-type craft bits and pieces.

However I was able to find all 3 books on my son's list (13yo voracious reader), about 75% of what ddAlmost12 wanted, and 12 Magic Tree House books and research guides for ddAlmost7! I also bought two board books for youngest nephew, a Christmas picture book for my kids, and the latest Magic School Bus hardcover (about famous scientists and their discoveries) for younger dd's birthday on the 30th.

I spent about $60 after the 50% discount and my $10 coupon. Not too shabby! I saved half the books for both girls to put into their stockings. Now their stockings will have the same "wow" factor as ds's.

I got a $5 off $25 coupon to be used next week. I'm going to check with the librarian at the kids' school when I'm volunteering on Monday to see what she could use. We just had book fair last week and a few books that she had gotten already have 20+ kids on waiting lists! I'm sure she could use additional copies!

I went back to the sale again today to pick up some books for some friends and to spend another $5 off coupon. The lady at the register recognized me since this was my 3rd visit. :cool1: She gave me a bunch of brochures for the sale and told me to pass them out to my friends. I asked, "Can anyone come then?" She nodded and said "Yeah."

Don't worry about it. Just go and have fun! Every day that I go back they have more stuff out that they pull out of boxes. I want to go back again tomorrow to get these talking ATM bank machines. The kids can use them for banks. It's a little ATM machine that you feed dollars and change into and it keeps track of deposits and withdrawls. I think these will be great Christmas gifts that my kids will get a kick out of. They are $29.99 but I can get them for 1/2 price and then apply the extra $5 coupon. Every time you go there, they give you another coupon for your next vist.

Oh, I feel better about going then. I wanted to buy books for my kids, and also buy some as Christmas presents for my boys classrooms. This will allow me to buy more books with the sale!
Thanks everyone!
