Scheduling DTD on our vacation

I was just finishing our schedule and it looks like the one an only time we could go to DTD is on our first official day of our trip....We've always waited to go on one of our last days. That way we could do some shopping on the parks and finish our shopping spree at The World of Disney. I can think of many pros of doing it this way, like for example, knowing how much $$ we have left, last minute souveniers, etc. - but I can't think of any pros of doing it so early on our vacation.
Anyone else does this? Could this work?
As always...thanks...

We are going on a quick 3 day trip with NO time for DTD...I am so upset about this that we are thinking of going in the night before and paying for two hotel rooms just so we can go for a few hours. I can't imagine not going on our trip.

We usually always spend time in DTD on both our arrival and departure days. We also sometimes squeeze a trip during the week, instead of going back to the resort for a break.

Hi jajuan,

We've been to WDW about 7 times now but never went to DTD or pleasure island. Do you think it's worthwhile to make time for this? We are going for 7 nights 8 days this time. What is pleasure island like? Is it very "disney" or is it the "land of drunks"? (not that this is such a terrible thing... the Epcot International Food and Wine festival does tend to keep one, well, well lubricated.)

Thanks!

We caught ourselves making a few small trips to DTD through out the week. We would just go at night 9pm-ish after we came back from the park. It's kind of nice to take the ferry over and just cruise the stores, pick up some ice cream and relax.

Hi mhingher,

What do you do at DTD when you take a break? What's it like? I've been to WDW but never DTD.

DTD is a MUST for us on every trip! The shopping in World of Disney - seeing what they have so I know when we are in the parks if I can buy it at DTD and have it shipped home or not. Also just the atmosphere alone is worth the time and energy to get there. I just was there Friday as I had a meeting in Ocala, FL in the morning and made sure my flight was later in the afternoon so I had at least 3 hours there! Makes the wait until the next trip with the entire family a little easier!

We usually do a non-park activity on arrival day - since we fly in from Phoenix and don't get on-site until close to 5PM. DTD is a nice (and free if you have self-control :rotfl2: ) way to start getting into the Disney spirit.

A few other reasons to do DTD at the start:

1. DTD & Pleasure Island and West End are free ;)
2. You can look for - and buy - souvies without having to lug them around a park and on/off rides.
3. Sometimes DTD at the end of a visit is anti-climactic.

I think we started a new tradition. Goto DTD the very first night we are in Orlando and have Earl of Sandwich and Gerahdelli....

We always go to DTD on our first day of our trip. For us, the benefit is we like to get all our shopping out of the way so then we don't have to worry about shopping throughout the parks.

We've always done it this way and I just couldn't imagine not going on the first day - we are such creatures of habit. ;)
