Is five full days at the Disney parks (so, ~9am-9pm) plus one full day at Universal too much for guests who've never been to WDW before? I'd be fine, but would this cause overload for them? There would be a rest day in there somewhere.

This would be their only trip to WDW because of the expense. I've been many, many times so it's all about them this trip :goodvibes

I would say a lot depends on what time of year that you are planning on attending. If it's very hot and sticky, that would be a tough schedule in view of the fact that they need to adjust to the Florida heat and humidity such as July or august, and a mid-day break would be a kindness. If it's March, April or early May, the humidity is not a factor and will not tire them out. Also consider how busy the parks will be.

ages of these guests? time of year you are going? if there are any youngsters in the group you are going to burn them out, quickly. If it is a busy time of year, you may burn out quickly fighting the crowds.

Mother and son. The mother is my age, the son will be 12. First week of October.

I remember handling this easily at his age, but since it's their first trip I'm not so sure.

They should be fine. But the people to be asking is THEM, not us! :)

Show them your touring plan and be sure that everything on your list is something they actually want to see. If, for example, your favorite ride in the world is TOT, but they don't have any interest, then take it off the list. If they want to see a show that you don't think is worth the time, schedule it in anyway.

Since this trip is all about them, be sure that it truly IS all about them.

That's a long time to be in the parks. Are you staying onsite? Early October is still pretty warm down here. A water park day or swimming at the pool each day might provide a well needed break.

Back in '05 we did 5 days of amusement parks from opening till closing with four kids aged 4-8. Since we were there w/a bus tour group, we couldn't leave unless we grabbed a taxi. We stayed all day every day. The kids were exhausted by the end of the day, but they loved every minute of it. If you don't plan on leaving the park, try to plan on seeing shows during the day where you will be sitting for a long duration. That will get you some rest. I would think they would be fine, but every body is different.

Sounds like alot of park days in a row. I always try to break up the park days little. At least to rest the weary feet!

Insert a resort pool or shopping day or afternoon off to relax. It's important to take the time to smell the "magic"!

Enjoy!

I did that, and they've spent some time on the official Disney site looking at rides and other attractions to see what specifically they felt was a "must see." They want to do and see "everything" and leave everything in my hands, but I don't want to wear them out too badly.

I think you'll be fine. We usually go to the parks from about 10am to close everyday of the trip. We don't go back to the hotel for mid day breaks, don't want to waste a lot of time on travel. Our kids are 1 1/2 and 4, and they enjoy every minute of it (of course they can take a snooze in the stroller if they like). Disney has so many attractions where you can take a nice long rest such as Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast show, Ellen's Universe of Energy (it's like 45 minutes), Great Movie Ride, Country Bear Jamboree etc. Try one of these when you feel you need a rest, and of course be sure to add in an hour and a half for a nice relaxing dinner.

My in-laws, my husband and our two young (1 and 3) girls did commando style disney and universal and IOA for one full week. It was exhausting, but we all enjoyed it. The baby took her naps in the stroller and the 3 year old didn't want to go back for naps (and stayed VERY happy b/c of all the stimulation). Although everyone fell asleep as soon as we got back each night we were ready to go the next morning. But I think it depends on the kids. You know your son and how much he can handle (and you too)! It is A LOT of walking everyday. My kids are go-with-the-flow types so it worked for us and we had a GREAT time. Going again for TWO weeks this year! You will have a wonderful time!

If they want to see "everything" and have left it in your hands, then I think you'll be fine. You always have the option to leave a park and come back later if everyone is just exhausted, right?
