Ok, I just found this out!! I normally only use regular Clorox bleach, but if there is a 2fer sale, I may purchase a scented and unscented variety.
Well the scented only contains 1/2 the active ingredient of unscented bleach.
(2.75% Sodium Hypochlorite in scented, 6% in regular Clorox)

The manufacturer is not required to list the % on the scented bottle, because the scented is not a disenfectant. There is not enough active ingredient in it to disenfect.

Im guessing if you diluted regular bleach 50/50 it would accomplish getting rid of the smell and you wouldnt need the scent!LOL!!

I dont use alot of bleach, but from now on, I wont waste my money on the scented varieties.

Interesting. I was actually wondering about this myself just recently and had no idea how to find out about it. I sometimes use bleach for cleaning sinks and the bathtub, but I hate the smell I get on my hands. I always buy store brand bleach - would that be the same too?

I think any time you use a cented product from the original it takes away from the active ingredient that makes the product work

Thanks for the info on that, I would have never known. I guess thats what I get for not researching stuff before buying it.

You are welcome:goodvibes I hope it helps to save some money.

I think the issue is, that the scented stuff is not labeled with the amount of active ingredient like the regular. So how do you truly know?

I really do feel it is sneaky at best. There are so many other ways to add scent to laundry etc. and cleaning products, that most people would not purchase bleach with no bleach in it and pay top dollar for it.

As long as you stay away from the scented varieties, most store brand bleaches are 6% Sod. Hypochlorite.

If you compare, most scented varieties will not list a percentage of active ingredient because it is so low, and by law, they are not required to list it.

You could literally, make your own scented bleach, by diluting 1 part 6% bleach with 8 parts water. Add some drops of lemon or other scent and voila!
