Scary Mommy Post

My kids go on vacation when we go on vacation. It doesn't matter where we go. They have been to WDW numerous time, some trips before they remember. They have also been to other states, countries, cities, whatever. We go on family vacations. Occasionally DH and I will go on a couples vacation, but very rarely anymore. I realize that not everyone can afford to do that. I think it is ridiculous to say a child shouldn't go somewhere because they won't remember it.

My girls were 4 and 2 respectively when they had their first trip to Disney. They are so cute when they are that young, because they believe that they really are meeting Belle, or Tigger. My oldest (who is now 19) talked about meeting Ariel for months after, and yes she still remembers it. Having little ones in the park can be hard because they do need special attention that may hinder the "see and do everything" mindset a lot of people have when they hit the parks for the first time. If you go in with the right mindset though, I think the ages between 3-6 are the perfect age to truly see the "magic" at the parks.

Although I’ve not had the pleasure of going yet, my sister has taken her kids multiple times, and she said 3&5 was perfect because they both believed. Last time they went, it wasn’t as magical for my nephew because he knows they aren’t the real characters.

I've watched the Disney "magic" change as my oldest daughter grew over the years. I have to admit that all my favorite tear in the eye memories of her trips were from her earliest years in the parks. Those memories were for me, and I cherish them as much as I do any other. Now I get to do it all over again with my youngest, and I can't wait to collect them all. The look on her face when Daisy Duck stopped to greet her during the Festival of Fantasy parade last year was something I will never forget. Even If she long since has forgotten.

I've taken my kids from very early on and it really is about me and not them at that point - the youngest I've taken one of our kids was 4 months but for me those memories are priceless and really Disney makes things pretty easy with little kids IF you are willing to go with the flow. My oldest is 6 and has been many times. They love it and we love it - we just don't try to enforce strict plans on them and go with the moods/tolerance that they have. I think parents who are totally miserable and don't want to take kids until they are way older are not the same as Disney addicts obviously - they don't get it and see it as only a one and done and want their kids to remember it all versus for us Disney is a lifestyle
