Ok iam 28 never rode a thrill ride, but i would love to ride this ride.I have heard alot of people say that it was way to intense. My wife loves these types of rides. I would love to show her that i am no wimp and ride this ride.I would like to know what to expect. :teeth:

Alright, it's clearly time for a little male encouragement

Dude, suck it up, be a man. Ride the ride, then get off, scratch yourself, burp, and go get a beer.

And then go back to MK and ride IASW again.

If you've never ridden a thrill ride, I wouldn't make this one the one to prove yourself to your wife. I'd start with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, go up to Splash Mountain, then Space Mountain, then a big dive into Rock N Roller Coaster, then Mission:Space. I'd save Twilight Zone for later.

My husband can ride anything, eat anything and be fine. I can't even handle a ferris wheel. He understands.

My suggestion (from a wimp but does the Disney thrill rides because they are less intense than the typical theme park thrill stuff) is this - go all the way up to the space pod with your wife. Then lovingly put her in the ride and go out. You can do that. See all the preshow stuff. See the queue. But just don't ride it. She'll have more fun not worrying about you and you'll have about ten minutes to wait without her.

You can do that with any of the Disney thrill rides. It's called a "chicken exit" but I call it "the reasonable choice".

More testosterone. . .
ride it dude, ride it, or turn in your man card.

To the females out there, this is what we guys do.

I think it is a very cool ride. It is essentially a centrifuge motion simulator. You get into a small darkened cabinet with 3 other "crew mates", the screen in front of you is very close and shows you blasting off and travelling to Mars. The cabinet spins creating G forces making the ride seem quite realistic. My husband cannot ride this as he gets very motion sick when he spins or does any type of motion simulator. My son, on the other hand, loves this ride and has been doing it since he was 5 years old.

Definitely do NOT start your thrill-seeking on this ride. I hate it and I usually have a pretty good stomach.

Contrasting view, I hate thrill rides and don't ride coasters (they make me sick!) or anything with drops, but I really love Mission Space! I won't ride Splash Mountain, Space Mountain or R'N'R, I get a little green on Big Thunder Mountain and the tiny drop in Pirates, and I was completely afraid to ride MS for a long time, but a friend talked me into doing it and I'm a convert. Loved it! Weirdly, my not-a-wuss friend (who goes skydiving!) said it was a little intense for him (a guy who thinks jumping out of a plane is *fun*!) and he felt a bit off afterwards. I think everyone reacts to the ride differently.

Basically, they strap you into a capsule thingy with a shoulder harness in front of a screen and some buttons, and you watch the screen- focusing on the movie keeps you from noticing the spinning, and it really does feel like you're flying/moving very fast- the pressure pushes you around in your seat a bit. They also blow some cool air in your face, which I found a little distracting but someone told me that it does help to keep people from feeling sick, in which case, bring on that air! I found that by following all the directions exactly, I had a good time and enjoyed the ride a lot. I found the scenery in the movie to be interesting enough to keep me distracted.

It made my stomach feel a *tiny* bit funny for a minute during the ride, and I'll admit I was very dizzy and my hands were a tad shaky after I got off, but within 10 minutes I was ready to go get another big drink of Beverly at Club Cool! (I like Beverly. I'm weird. That might mean you shouldn't take my advice).

If I can do Mission Space with a round of Beverly before and after, plus drinking halfway around the world in Epcot...maybe you'll be okay. ;)

A more realistic checklist- can you do spinny rides like the Tilt-A-Whirl and the teacups? If you've been to Universal, can you ride Back To The Future and Spiderman? It's not so much about the motion on those, it's completely different, but the visuals on those rides can be a bit disorienting, so if that's not comfy for you, you probably won't like MS either.

As an official thrill ride chicken, I'd say if you can't do those rides, maybe Mission Space is not a good idea. If you can, go for it, you might enjoy it.

I'm 58 years old, hate thrill rides and love Mission Space. Yes, it does have some unique aspects to it but it is well worth the time. It's not scarry just filled with action and participation, if you wish to do so. Give it a try, it is awesome.

ladysoleil - you and I must start a club, I don't ride any of those other "thrill rides" either. With the exception of BTMRR - LOVE that one. :confused3 :cool1: Can't take the beverly though. :teeth:

EasyGoing - I'm the biggest chicken of all and I would ride MS if I weren't already 38 and having signs of "aging." ;) I don't think my body can take the spinning without wanting to hurl for the rest of the day. :rolleyes2 But that's me and you're 10 years younger, so I wouldn't let the "thrill ride" part scare you. If you don't have a problem with motion sickness, then JUST DO IT!

Actually, if people think MS is too intense now, they should have been on it before the official opening. It was much more intense and as far as I'm concerned, much more fun. I have been on it since the official opening too and feel that they have really dumbed it down. I preferred the more intense version, but I guess they had a lot of cleaning up to do after the people who probably shouldn't have gone on in the first place.

Keep your eyes on the screen and don't close your eyes more than necessary. Do lamaze breathing ( yes, the breathing women do for childbirth really does help! Slow deep breaths, in though the nose, out through the mouth) Whatever you do, don't look to either side or you will definitely feel the spin motion. During take-off you will feel like you have an elephant sitting on your chest. Breathe your way through it.

Good luck!

I am fine on mission space - i love the mountains and do ok on rock n roller until that last corkscrew and am fine on tot.....in fact we had just eaten at china and I have a nervous stomach and was not feeling right, was concerned about ms, they talked me into it and my tummy felt better while I was on the ride than before...

it's a great guy ride. you get to flip switches, press buttons, and stare into a TV screen while holding a joystick. :) man up, you only pull 2.5 G's. :teeth:

The ride is exactly the same as it was on day one. No more intense; no less.

Thanks for all those who had some healthy input. For or Honneymoon we went to Unvirsal Studios and I rode Spiderman and Back to the future, and loved them but no roller coasters. I will ride Mission Space, and as far as my man card i will always keep that i work to hard for 28 years on that!lol. So i promised my wife i will ride everything and thats just what i will do,even if i do scream like a little girl when i do ride them!

so pay no atttention to the MAN screaming on all the thrill rides on these dates! lol....lol...lol :rotfl2:

If you worry about being sick or feeling queazy, do it on your way oout of Epcot. Last ride of the day.

Then if you feel sick, you're done for the day anyways and you did not miss out on all the fun. That way you'd know if it's on your list of hits or miss.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's not a scary ride, you just might feel a little out of it when you are on it. It's really awesome! But if you really are concerned, go to the MK and ride all the coasters there. Mission Space will seem like nothing after that cause it's sure not a coaster. Hope I helped.

enjoy the ride!

i liked it when i went on it and i think you will feel the same

IMO I don't think mission space is scary at all. The ride itselft and the views are awesome. However, the reason I won't ride it again is that it made me very sick feeling afterwards due to the centrifugal force. If you aren't prone to motion sickness, you should be fine..Its worth at least one ride to see if you like it. Its not like a coaster that has big hills or loops, or like TOT which drops you... You really don't notice the actuall movement component of the ride (it really "feels" like a simulator type ride). It comes with barf bags, that should be the clue as if you can handle it. :teeth:

I would not start out with this ride, although my 9 & 7 year old daughters love it ( and my 9 year old is very hard to get on simple roller coasters) but I will never ever ride that ride again!! Did I mention I wont ever ride that again ?? :rotfl2:
