Scared about staying at Value now..Should I Upgrade?

We are staying at a value for the 1st time in 2 weeks. We are flying in late afternoon and I did not see the point of a late check-in at AKL. With POP at $59 and AKL at $165 it was kind of a no-brainer.

We have stayed at both mods and deluxes in the past. I am hoping that we enjoy it enough to do again on those 2nd DVC weekends where the points do not justify the cost.

DD can't wait!

We stayed at the POP for one night before transferring to the POFQ in December and we really liked it. The rooms are smaller than the moderates or deluxes but it was just my mother and I in one room and a friend and her grand daughter in another. When I first saw the pictures of the resort I thought they were a bit over the top. But once we were there I thought it was pretty cool. I really loved the size of the food court and the selections.
I'm taking a quick trip in July and I book the Allstar Music since it is just me. I picked that resort because I'm going a small budget and I've never stayed there before.
One thing I find is that in the summer I really spend less time in the room. I'm up early and in the parks, I return in the afternoon to rest and go to the pool, and then back to the parks until late at night. We stayed 2 nights at the Poly this past summer and really did not get to enjoy the ambiance of the resort because we were in the parks

Paying more does not equal class. You could pay more for the same noise.

Because of the thread where they really bashed the values - I noticed a lot of the people just posted that big icons seemed trashy so they never went value. I am sure you will find that most people that visit disney worked really hard to save up to get there and are just there to enjoy. People that act and think they are "owed" something and are not mindful of those around them, usually never really earned it.

BRAVO!!!!! :cool1:

We are staying at a value resort (Pop) for the first time in December. We have stayed at Poly before and were very disappointed because we were paying so much and did not get much "Magic" for our money.

In December, we are getting two (hopefully) connecting rooms, and are paying less than 1/2 of what we'd pay for one room at a deluxe resort. That's 3 beds (assuming we get our requested king bed), two TVs and 2 bathrooms! I could be wrong, but I think we'll be much happier spending a lot less, expecting a little less and getting more.

My kids are 11 and 14, and from the pictures, they think Pop Century is cool!

Okay, I booked us at the All Star Movie Resort and **requested** (with fingers crossed) the Toy Story section. Now I have never stayed at a value and have only stayed at, SOG, Moderates or higher.

I have been going over post after post and now I am scared that we are going to have a terrible experience, loud rooms, overrun with kids etc (after reading so many posts riddled with complaints).

I am travelling with my husband and our 5 and 2 1/2 year old, who I thought would get a kick out of the resort and when we went last year, we spent so little time at SOG and in our room (naps, pool and bed).

Should I upgrade completely?, Do half in a value and half in moderate? or cross my fingers and hope for the best....I am travelling with an HFA (high functioning autism) child (DS5) and I sort of need the room to be a quiet place he can come down from all of the stimulation and to read some of these post..the values are like Animal House.

Thanks for your help..

Here are the questions to ask yourself.

Are you planning on spending a lot of time at your resort?

Do you mind staying in a motel style "resort"?

Do you mind only having a food court for meals at your resort?

Do you mind not having a pool slide?

If you answered no to all of the above then you should be okay. As far as noise goes you can have noisy neighbors anywhere. I have read many a post about people complaining about noise at the Poly and the AKL just to name two of the deluxe resorts. That stuff can happen anywhere.

Well we booked CSR for 8 nights after going back and forth about whether to book POP or not. I am concerned that I may have overpaid and should stay at POP. :earboy2: It is REALLY hard, esp when coming to these boards to pick one place and be content with it. Everyone has personal opinions. Go with gut, if you originally thought value would work, then just stick with it. Personally I went to the Poly and think we overpaid which is why we are doing a mod this time. I rather underpay and have a not so great time at the resort then overpay and have a great not so time at the resort.

Also - rather stay at the value with low expectations and be suprised if you like it then go to a mod with better expectations and be disappointed if it isn't what you thought.

Hey, I just might switch back to the POP now :rotfl:

We've stayed at all levels. I have to say the ASMo has the best food court we've seen yet. We bring our humidifier (or use a white noise machine) and it blocks out the noise. I though the Poly was just as packed with kids as any value resort (more so)-have a great time!!!!!

I personally would neve stay in a value. The busses are too crowded, the people are too loud and the traffic volume is too high. We always do POFQ. Fewer rooms, less people in the food courts, pools and busses.

When we left MGM on our 3rd night, we got in line at our bus stop...the value stop was about 3 queues ahead of us and the line wrapped through the entire queue and all the way back to the beginning of the bus queues. It was so long. After that, I noticed each night or afternoon that the lines for the busses for all of the value resorts were really long. Several times, there were 2 - 3 busses there and the lines were still super long. Looked like they need more like 10 - 15 busses. YIKES

Please keep in mind that we visit in either December (before Christmas) or June (beginning of the month).

We also do this or sometimes just turn on the fan in the bathroom. Seems to work just fine! :flower:

What?????? People whisper at moderates, and deluxe resorts at all times? How do you even know how loud "THE PEOPLE" are if you have never or will never stay at a value resort?

If you don't want to stay at a value, then don't. But don't assume you know anything about me or the other people who stay at a value.

I have never stayed at a Value Resort. Last year I booked the Pop Century and cancelled it (I got scared). It's just my son & I but...I don't know...the word "Value Resort" intimidated me. All we do is sleep in the room but...

Well said! I agree completely. You really do have to go with you gut! I have found that reading these boards almost swayed me to change my ressies from a mod to a deluxe for my next trip. Then I stopped myself and said, "that is $500 or more dollars I could spend on so many other things". I am comfortable with a moderate. Why am I looking for more when the magic really comes from the parks, not the room I sleep in at night.
