I hope they deal with this player majorly. Because you can see it was not a trade and I am sorry. You were trying to do something nice for another diser and got used. I think it is awful. I hope he is banned from VMK for ever.

Hi everyone -

I have a bit of an update.


I got together with a few friends last night for a pow wow session and I think we have figured out WHO the scammer is.

Thank goodness he is NOT a DIS member to my knowledge. But actually someone on my friends list using another ID to scam me.

That is how he knew that Too had inferno that GothicMal was indeed me.

There are several other things that lead us to believe that the scammers id was someone on our friends list a "pirate buddy" I do not want to give too many details because I do not want him to know I know who he is.

He scammed another friend out of their Stitch Hat with the same con earlier this week as his other character, of which I will not be sharing the ID because I have no concrete proof that it is him.

I will share the ID he used to scam me with anyone who asks, just not his other id.

I have also been messaged that this scammer has tried and/or succeeded to scam many others in VMK.

Can you pm me the title please. I don't want my son trading or associating with this person. He has inferno and loaned it out one time to a good mutual friend and I told him no more because you just never know. I'm sad for you and sorry someone took advantage of your kindness.

I only read a few of the responses to what happened and to tell you the truth I am not surprised. I have very few "close" friends on vmk but none of them are close enough for me to trust with something as valuable to me as my bat magic ( See I have not been fortunate enough to ever have had inferno ) My feeling is this, if you aren't willing to part with something forever then you should never lend it to anyone. What a horrible way to learn a lesson like that. I know how dearly everyone holds certain things and even without ever having it, inferno is one of the most dearest.

I know it was very frivolous of me to trust this player but they did give me some very valuable things to hold while they "used" my inferno to take the pic.

I did not in a million years think they would want to risk losing these items by not giving back my inferno.

Although since it happened and people have begun messaging me about this person it seems this scam works well for them and they can replace these items without much effort and at no cost to them.

Some have pointed out to me that all is not lost I do now have a Stitch Hat and full Sparrow, while true, this is still a scam and a bad one since it involves breach of trust and deception and should carry a minium ban of 10 years in my HO.

what kind of world is this when people are scamming for PIXELS! These VMK things do nothing in real life and cannot get you anywhere besides in vmk. Thank goodness that there are people like you guys the inform us about these things before we could be victims too. I only have two friends i can trust on vmk, my sister, and my friend groovy.

You don't need the name...just tell your girls to never lend anything to anybody unless it is something they would not mind losing.

Easier said that done, sometimes kids just get a thought in their heads and forget about common sense, well, at least my kids do.

Sorry to hear this happened. No you can't trust anyone, not even DISer's sorry to say. I've had a couple of high profile DISer's (yes they are still active here) that renegged on some trades with me. Now that's not quite the same as scamming, but still not a nice thing to do in my HO. I had the opportunity to trade with others who also had good offers, but I made a deal so I didn't make those trades. And for my honesty, I ended up with nothing.
So unfortunately you have to beware of everyone. Sad but true.

I hope the items you got in trade weren't scammed from someone else. You said someone had a Stitch hat scammed from them.

This is just awful, I'm so sad and sorry.

Obviously if they have been doing this to others it explains where the stuff you go Mal came from. Which stinks. This is someone that really needs to be banned though with how much it seems that they are doing it. Such a shame that people have to do this kind of stuff in a game.

How is VMK supposed to stop this kind of scam? You fully admit that by trusting this person you take full responsibility. VMk gives us a couple of windows to make sure we agree with the trade. There are warnings on the front page about making sure you absolutely trust and know that person before you consider letting someone borrow something. I am not sure what else VMK can do about it?

Once again, I am not saying this to be mean, I agree the person you traded with is bad person. It is just that if we want something more to assist us in these situations perhaps we can offer suggestions as to how this can be achieved?

Mine was a simple scam involving only one trade window. And yes I was stupid to have let myself be scammed never said I was not.


I have a load of suggestions all of which I have posted before and no doubt will post again. That have more to do with trades than my situation since i was not exactly trading.

1. Release more of the most desired items in VMK, sparrow, stitch, inferno, beta....the more items in circulation the less likely others are to be scammed.

2. Do something about scammers who have been reported with proof or no proof.

I actually offered clear evidence that my interaction with this player was not a trade that he was borrowing the item and was to return it.

I also know that it lies on me and me alone...I did not ask that VMK give my inferno back...I did ask that this player be banned.

I will add more when I return, have to go pick up DS from school.

So sorry you were scammed. But I object to you calling yourself stupid. You were trusting - there is a huge difference. It could have happened to any of us. I hope VMK bans this fellow AND gives you your inferno back. Good luck.
