Scam Warning update pg 5

I was scammed...


I think this was a well planned out scam by a member or maybe a used to be member here on the DIS.

Here is what happened:


I was approached on the Pirate Dock a couple of days ago by the scammer.

He addressed me as Too and asked if I knew justanotherjones(a friend who I play pirates with a lot). He said he needed to trade with Jones because Jones would give him credits for items and since Jones was not around I asked him what he needed.

He said 30,000 credits to buy a quest machine he gave me a flip and an animation viewer. Then later he asked me if he could use my Red Space Magic to buy his quest machine and that he would let me hold his sparrow hat. We did this several times because he told me he was having trouble getting into Inner Space. So I trusted him and felt he was a good person.

I could not have been farther off base.


Today he found me on the dock and asked if he could borrow my inferno
so he could take a pic of himself using it.

He would let me keep his Full Sparrow and his stitch hat he also added to that a green pirate chair and a club33 pin. (Full disclosure)

I took screen shots of the trade window where we agreed this was only to take a picture and that he would give it right back.

I think you all know what happened next.

That is the story and how I feel about VMK's response is another thread and will post what transpired after later.

For now just be aware of this scam.

Also I am going to lobby that VMK take a hard stance on these types of scams, full computer (IP) bans for these scammers. If anyone in the meantime wants to know his id either PM me or post and I will provide it to you.

Mal I am not on my character just now so if you feel lonely without your inferno call on me and you can have mine to borrow while I am away. I hate scammers. Hope you get it back soon and VMK understands it was not just a normal trade. I remember when my sister was scammed from her inferno but the DIS helped her out!

I have many more pictures that can be provided to VMK if they ask.

I am really mad at myself, but I am also mad at VMK for not taking a HARD stance against these scammers.

They have been around since the beginning of VMK and if they would permanently ban these scammers instead of sending the people scammed out of their stuff messages that they can not do anything if you feel you have been scammed use contact us.

What really saddens me, is that this inferno was a gift and very special to me. While I take full responsibility for losing it. I do think that VMK should get control of these situations.

Actually, the identity is still visible in the "accepts" portion of your second screen shot. (I won't include it in the quote, so it will be gone if you edit it out.)

This scammer better hope he doesn't run into Dis folks on the pirate dock.

I am very touched, thank you, I could never ask anyone to give up an inferno for me being gullible and trusting.

It is my fault that I trusted this player and I will have to live with that.

I do hope that VMK rethinks their response to this problem and things change.

All I can say is this player is "POND SCUM"

I hate to think this, but I wonder if they used this same method on others to get the Sparrow and Stitch they offered as collateral.

It hurts when the faith you place in someone is shattered.

I'm so sorry Mal. I know how it feels to trust somebody, and then have them turn their back on you.

I hope you can somehow get your inferno back, I know I'd be devastated if I lost mine.

Oh Mal! I am SO sorry to read this thread Hugs to you, girl. I too hope VMK takes a HARD stance on these scammers - it's time to ban them for life. Sorry this had to happen to you.

So sorry that someone took advantage of your kindness You have always been there to advise and help all of us. Do you think this person will still use this same title on VMK. Because I will be looking for him and if I see this name I will try and get on friends list and let you know.

Sorry that happened. I do wish VMK would do something with the scammers as well. They obviously seem to feel that if they are able to keep whatever and get away with it then they can keep going while whoever reports they are scammed and yet ends up with the stuff lost. It doesn't seem right. Especially if you can prove it happened. Hopefully with sending those screenshots they will take care of that person.

I am not counting on getting back my inferno, after all it was my mistake and I do know better, it is just my bad judgment to think the best of people who turn out to be lower than POND SCUM.

What I would like is for VMKto take a hard stance on this instead of taking the easy road out by banning this player(and others like him) forever and that includes all of his ids and his computer(s).
