HI all,

Just getting into Scrapbooking and am wondering what SB magazines you all subscribe to? and why do you like them? Also are there any special ones a newbie should read?

TIA,

Mike

My favs are Memory Makers,Papercuts and Creating Keepsakes-all are great magazines!

Creating Keepsakes is by far the most useful magazine I have found. It gives detailed instructions on how to use new toys, such as eyelets and wire. I also like the clean, uncluttered pages it features. Very easy for a newbie to copy and make their own.

You might also want to check out Becky Higgens' idea book (published by CK). It has instructions about color schemes, patterened paper, backgrounds. It is very comprehensive and a great help when you're creatively challenged.

I really like Simple Scrapbooks - I think for a new scrapper it has very easy to use ideas.

I find the CK layouts tend to be quite fancy and heavily embellished - they look great, but I can't duplicate them

I don't subscribe to any of the magazines. I pick them up now and then. It's not cost effective but one magazine is enough inspiration for a few month for me. I don't try to duplicate layouts but pick and choose element ideas from them. Be sure to pick up either of Becky Higgins books. She has become sort of a scrapping guru for many of us. Her Scrapbooking Secrets or her Creative Companion. The Secrets book is a magazine format, her companion is full of formula's and techniques.

Go to www.gracefulbee and subscribe to their free on line news letter. I have subscribed to it since day 1. They have some really great ideas. You'll find serendipity squares there.

Well as a newbie too I have found Becky Higgin's Scrapbooking Secrets invaluable - but that is a book rather than a magazine.

I have a few copies of Creating Keepsakes, a few Paperkuts, and a couple of second hand Hot of The Press Ideas books and to be honest, I like looking through each one of them.

I have recently subscribed through a UK Supplier for CK and PK on a regular basis purely because we dont have that much choice here in the UK - but at the moment, as a newbie I am just happy to look through and read anything at all that will give me ideas and inspiration.

Looking at people's personal albums on their websites is also a great resource, as is all the groups etc, like this one here. I have learned so much from each resource I use, I couldnt pick one out as being better than any other :D

Plus...............I like to chat a lot!!! LOL ;)

I'm just starting as well - I did one layout for our recent Western vacation and I'm HOOKED! I have been thinking about it for at least 2 years though and had a couple of CK magazines I'd look at every once in a while. Now that I've actually started doing it, I've found it invaluable! The most recent issue had a sketched outline of a layout and then 3 different ways people did that - I used that outline for one of my layouts and am very pleased with it. It gave me two ideas - the first one just the layout itself - I was wanting to get as many pictures as I could without overwhelming the page - and the second one - I can sketch a layout idea myself! It's a very simple thought - but until you get used to doing it that's what makes magazines a good idea starter to me. I plan on having a scrapping orgy this weekend!

I subscribe to Creating Keepsakes magazine and I also own several of their idea books and 3 of Hot Off The Presses books.

I check out the new layouts about every other day over at www.twopeasinabucket.com and www.dmarie.com. I click on the layouts link buttons.

I take Paper Kuts, Creating Keepsakes and Ivy Cottage. I pick up the others every once in a while. I can't take more than 3 scrapbook magazines.

I really like them all, but Paper Kuts and CK are probably my favorites.

Creative Keepsakes is my favorite. I don't think I've ever totally copied a page before, I mostly just get ideas. I would like to try out one of Becky Higgins books.

I'm a pretty simple scrapbooker. I've been doing it for about four or five years. When I look at my first book I'm still pleased overall so it makes me feel good to know that I've chosen a style that is really "me".

Sorry it took so long to get back to these replies, but I was out of town for the weekend at a DIS meet.

thanks for the names I will check all of these out and figure out which one(s) to subscribe to, or at least pick up from time to time.

I've tried the magazine route and find that most of the designs are more complicated than I have time for so now I pick up and issue here or there that interests me. An idea for newbies that has worked great for me and is working for my friends and family that are starting to scrap at Creative Memories Fast Formulas books. They are wonderful and I end up using those more than magazine ideas. It's really easy to find a consultant to get them and they really don't cost that much, especially since I tend to use them over and over, you can change colors, etc. to make the formulas look different.
