Say yes to the dress

That much for a dress is NUTS!!! My dress was gorgeous and it only cost a little over $300. My friend just found her dress at a boutique type bridal show (I was with her) and it was on the sale rack for $50! It was GORGEOUS!!!!!

Ok, this was way back in 1974 but I made my dress using 4 different pattern so I could get everything I wanted. It cost me $32 for the gown, the long floor lenght veil with a removable train, and a removable train on my dress.
I had a matron of honor, maid of honor, 3 bridesmaids, a junior bridesmaid and flower girl. The maids dresses cost $13 each with large fabric bows and veils for the back, and I used scraps to make the flower girl dress.
They were beautiful and I was complimented many times.
My sister-in-law wore my wedding gown for her marriage to my brother.
Unfortunately we are all divorced now so I threw the gown away. I am not letting anyone else wear it, it was cursed with 2 divorces.
I made the gowns for my sister's wedding too, but my sewing machine broke so I sewed them by hand. Luckily it was only her and I, so it wasn't that bad. They cost about $25 each.

Carmel's perceived dislike for budget minded brides could actually have been frustration, wanting to help customers stay within their "price point"(I love that "cloudy" term) but having a very limited inventory in which to do it with!
I have a hard time believing that there was nothing to show the bride. If you go to Kleinfeld's site and go to collections, type in you want to see the gowns priced from $1,000 - $3,000, you get 11 pages of gowns. And these are only from the exclusive collections.

The owners are not stupid people. Kleinfelds is known around the country for being "the" bridal shop. It has almost a cult following. I went there for a bridesmaid dress back in the dark ages. They haven't survived all these years without catering to all sorts of brides. They have to make a profit and have to have dresses in all price points.

Even in that last show, it was mentioned that it was very important for Kleinfeld's to stock the lower end dresses in this economy.

Of course, editing can completely twist anything, so who really knows what Carmel thought. She could have mentioned something about brides and lower priced dresses in a completely different context and it was edited to make it look like she hated these brides.

Perhaps she left because she was tired of the editing and being portrayed as the snobby salesperson.

I've also been watching this show and I do seem to remember Carmel saying something negative about "cheaper" dresses... :confused3

Am I the only one, though, who thinks "traditional" wedding gowns aren't even pretty? I have been married (now divorced) and went traditional that time. The dress was heavy and ugly and I realize now that it was much too expensive at $1,000. It's looking more and more like I will be marrying again at some point, and I've been looking at what I really like. I've found 2 formal, vintage-style dresses - in colors, since I look horrid in white and ivory - for around $200.

I remember one last year where there was this absolutely spoiled brat of a bride.

She had custom ordered a Pnina dress in the high 20's. When it came in, she hated it- the top was not see through enough.

So, Daddy let her get another one off the rack that was also in the high 20's. She found one she liked, but then had them remove all the lace outercover of the dress (the bulk of the price of the dress) because she whined that she didn't like lace.

So, she got the tulle underskirt for $28,000 (give or take a thousand).

She was spoiled, rude and totally obnoxious to the sales staff and her family.

OTH - I hope Carmel gets the boot due to her not making her quota due to her disdain for any bride with a budget of $2,500 and under. She treats them like crap and acts like she is being put out that they are not buying the expensive dresses.

I do love watching the show and seeing the dresses. I do remember this episode and she was such a spoiled brat :scared1:

I hope Carmel is gone, she never impressed me.

I can't believe some of the family members people bring, they are so negative and start trying to find dresses themselves.

When you go shopping for a bridal gown, are you really expected to buy one your first time out shopping? Especially years ago before you could look things up on the internet. I know they have bridal magazines but you don't know how you'll look in different style dresses before you try them on. I understand the consultants are trying to make a commission but it doesn't seem fair to the bride to have to choose a dress in an timed appointment their first time out shopping. And they can't look around the store? Sometimes on this show they let the bride come in the back room & they let the family look around and other times they complain about it.

I DVR'd that last new episode, and I am almost positive that they did say Carmel was let go. I am going to double check later what the exact words were. I disliked her from the first episode she was in. That's when she said she was used to working in high fashion and didn't like working with cheap people and cheap gowns. :sad2: I don't think she came across as friendly at all, and I don't ever remember seeing her smile. She also complained whenever Randy or anyone else tried to help her. She just seemed very full of herself.

I think I have seen every episode, most several times, and what never fails to amaze me is how many people either A) Bring WAY too many opinionated people with them and B) Bring their fiance's to pick out the dress. It always amazes me how rude the bridesmaids/sisters/friends/cousins are to the bride.

I think anytime you bring 5 or more people with you, there is no way they will all agree on one dress.

i love watching the show, just for the dresses. mine was 1050 in 1999 and that was expensive then! and yes that 25000 dress bride- holy god!!! spoiled much? and i'm sorry there are some beautiful dresses out there- many worn by our very own disbrides- but i don't see the appeal of pnina torina's dresses! to me they look like glorified lingerie! wow i just made myself sound old! lol

I got married in 1994. My dress was a little over $1000 at a local bridal shop. But it was WAY too small for me. Being stubborn, I did not order it in the correct size, but instead lost weight, and "visited" the dress every so often to check my progress. ;) Right about the time I fit the dress perfectly and was ready to buy, it went on sale for 60% off. So my dress was $460 after tax.

Thank you...I thought I was the only one who looked at some of those P'nina dresses and said to myself "great slip, now where's the dress"...

They really do look like the foundation garments or lingerie. Maybe they're appropriate for a wedding at the Chicken Ranch or Playboy Mansion but I couldn't imagine setting foot into a church wearing some of those undergarments...er, dresses. Heck, in my church at home in NJ, the pastor wouldn't even allow spaghetti straps, let alone strapless gowns or lingerie styles.
