Tomorrow is Sep 11 and everyone around here (Washington DC) is sorta holding their breath. DH has been told to stay home tomorrow and not to drive into the city (where he works). I just read that they are stationing anti-aircraft missiles at the Pentagon and at several bases around the city.

I think it fair to say that the USA will be on most people's, if not everyone's, mind tomorrow. This is what my company are doing:

"In London we will join our colleagues in North America in observing the two minutes of silence on September 11th - the first at 1:46 p.m. when the first World Trade Center Tower was struck, and the second at 3:29 p.m. when the second tower collapsed"

I hope you and your family remain safe. In fact, I hope we all remain safe!

You guys are so sweet. I really don't think anything is going to happen. I mean they'd be really dumb to try something--security is going to be so tight. I just wish life would get back to normal.

I am glad that DH gets to stay home. I was up on I-95 today and saw (on one of those big computer message boards), that some exits/roads around the Pentagon and going into the city are going to be closed tomorrow (for various ceremonies). It's liable to be a mess. Actually, it's a mess under normal circumstances, it will be terrible tomorrow.

Our media is really beating a drum on this one. By the time the weekend gets here, we're all going to be so wrung out. They just keep interviewing family after family, all those little fatherless/motherless children. I know they mean well, but it's draining to watch it.

I know what you mean,Steph, our Media is the same. But, hey, that's their business and people ARE desperate for any reports/tributes/information surroundin that fateful day and it's anniversary.

I hope we all get to the weekend, safe, sound and without further incident ; I'm sure we will.

It's hard to imagine what it must be like over in the US today - it's such a sad day here and so much is being done to remember all the people who lost their lives.

Thinking of you all in the US on this very sad day. I pray that the day goes peacefully and you and your family stay safe. I remember a year ago, watching the same scenes over and over again, and it is certainly hard to 'switch off'. It was particularly hard for me as I was injured in the Manchester bombing 6 years ago, although it was nowhere near the same scale of tragedy, the people screaming and running brought back terrible memories I just want to forget. Horrific events like this certainly give you a new outlook on life. Hopefully it will make us stronger and realise what's important in life.

A friend of ours who is a police sergeant is over in New York at the moment, representing her force, so we're hoping that the day is able to be acknowledged without incident and she comes back home safely.

Mazzy, I was watching a morning news program broadcasting from Ground Zero, and they showed a group of bobbies who had come from the UK. The moderator said that the bobbies had flown to New York at their own expense to show their support. I wonder if your friend was among them. There were several men and two women, and they were in uniform. Wouldn't that be neat if it were her?

I've been watching all the coverage, it's been round-the-clock since late last night. The weather here today is absolutely beautiful.

I also caught the ceremonies that took place in the UK--very moving. I especially liked the presentation of the tattered Union Jack which was found at Ground Zero.

Steph, I wonder if it was her? It 's a relief today that yesterday went so smoothly, but still it was very upsetting watching the coverage, especially at Ground Zero where relatives were holing up photos of loved ones lost. A very sad day.
