Saw Something Disgusting at Epcot This Week...

We were at Epcot on Sat. June 17th. VERY hot that day. Outside the American Presidents attraction there is the big water fountain. Well, a guy from England watch his son..no more than 5 or 6..get right out of the stroller and jump in.....we thought it was funny, then...the father pulls his son out and strips him but naked and lets him go back in. It was UNREAL.

I was going to take a picture with my phone because no one would beleive it. I didnt take a picture due to the fact someone may think i was some kind of "freak".

I dont understand the thinking of some of these parents.

Another thing I noticed was how all the "teeny boppers" were dressed. I know thats the style now a days...but parents...COME ON. How can some of you let you sons or daughters out of the house dressed the way they do.

Its getting ridiculous.

Okay - I've got to say, naked babies do not bother me in the slightest. I've read comments like this before, and have always been puzzled. I can see objecting to the naked pre-pubescent kids that some people have spotted at the water parks and such - but I don't think that a five year-old splashing around in a fountain is a big deal. No offense to the OP. I know people are worried about perverts, but I think it's a shame that we've gotten so frightened that we're constantly on guard about the possible exploitation of something so innocent.

I agree with the comment regarding how young girls dress, though. It's hard to find clothes for even the youngest kids that don't make them look like hoochies. :sad2:

I wish security was there and hauled that loon away. There's got to be a bathroom every 150 ft. :confused3 I guess the guy couldn't read or see signs or he was just too lazy.

There happens to be a bathroom right at that Odyssey place AS WELL AS where that path ends, by Test Track.

Whatta pig. Would'a served him right to have fallen in that water. I threw a chunk of a Turkey Leg in that water before - the fish are like barracuda's! ;)

My 4 year old was standing in line for a picture with a couple of characters a few months ago when 2 adult males and 1 adult female from a spanish speaking country stepped in front of her and walked up to the characters in front of her. I tried to confront them but they gave the old reliable "no speak english" and of course the staff was non confrontational. I work in a prison and believe me I hear that line alot. Disney is for the kids and I cannot believe someone would ever be rude enough to step in front of a child. I am in the most incredibly good moods when I am at Disney but these people almost put me over the edge. I love to go on the rides but I would gladly step aside for any child there.

While I don't think there is any cultural justification for the "drinking-fountain bidet" incident (which would be appalling anywhere; b/c even in the poorest third-world places, there is a universal rule that one does not foul drinking water), I can make allowances for an elderly man urinating into bushes. In some places it really is considered cleaner for a man to do that, and we all know how difficult it sometimes is to convince older folks to do things differently than they always have.

It kills me what some people will do in public.

It does kind of remind me though of an incident w/ my 3 yo when we were there in Dec. We had gotten in line for Dumbo and we are getting very close to the front. The line starts moving and I look down to make sure he is walking with us. When I look down he is in the process of pulling down his pants to pee, his pants and underwear are down around his knees and he was assuming the position. I get out a shocked NO! and at the same time reach down to pull his pants up. I told him we could not pee outside. Thankfully, we were next in line and he lasted until we could get him to the bathroom. So, if you were in line for Dumbo Dec 18th, and got a shock I sincerely apologize. But again, everyone should be happy to know that I did not allow him to pee in line. :rotfl: I also promise that is the first time he had ever done something like that in public. What was so funny, was later in the week at AK I was walking behind a couple with a little girl who looked to be around 3yo. In the middle of dinoland she decided to drop her pants as they were walking along. Her mother looked down and was shocked. She immediately started pulling up the girls pants the whole time getting on to her for such a thing. Apparently, WDW brings out the exhibitionist in the toddler set.

You know what is most annoying to me about situations like this? I know for a fact that there are bathrooms in at least 4 countries in Epcot, not to mention in Future World I think there may be 2. How could you HOLD IT for SO LONG that you literally can't make it to a real bathroom? Surely you must have passed at least one bathroom since the last time you went, and even for people like me with weak bladders...when you first get the urge to go you should start making your way TOWARDS a bathroom so you can go before it gets that bad! And I'm sorry but even kids shouldn't be "allowed" to get away with this. If you have kids, stop at every bathroom and at least make them TRY to go

I am reading this knowing that people American and non-American can sometimes be pigs. For everyone using the excuse about maybe it is in their culture to relieve themselves where ever they choose, I always thought that you had to obey the law of the country or state that you are in. In the USA it is against the law to pull your pants down and urinate in public. It is called indecent exposure. These non-Americans cannot pretend to be ignorant of the USA culture. If they were able to come here from another country, then they are most likely educated and should know better. I am not bashing non-Americans. I know many Americans do disgusting things also.

As for the CM's not doing anything most of the time, please remember they are just humans trying to make a living. I am sure they don't want to make confrontations and then get in trouble with management when the misbehaving people go and complain (which I am sure they would do). As for speaking out ourselves, it still does not work. I was at six flags new england on opening weekend this year. The mayor of that town was there. His group was cutting. I said something and the lady with the mayor says, you know he is the mayor of the town. I just looked at her and said I don't care. I live in another state and politicians don't really impress me but I guess this lady thought I should get on my hands and knees and kiss the guys ___.

As far as the guy urinating, I will have my camera ready at all times this first week of August. So beware, if I see you doing anything disgusting, I will snap a few pictures to share on the internet.

Peg's situation with the guys claiming no habla, reminded me on an incident in DTD AMC a couple of years ago. My DH and I were in a R movie, waiting for it to start. These two teenagers thought it was cute to kick the back of my chair. First time I told them to please stop, no response from either; second time, I stood up, turned around and told them to stop it now. They then used the no habla crap. I have a teen age boy; I know bs when I hear it. I proceeded to tell them that was a bunch of baloney, they were in a movie without subtitles, for pete's sake, and since it was an R and they did not have a guardian with them, if they did not stop immediately I would tell the manager underage kids were watching the movie. Not a peep from either of them the rest of the movie.

But...how many *Americans* travel to WDW and don't even pick up a guidebook??? Yes, we think everyone who travels should learn the customs, BUT that is almost a uniquely American way of thinking. TKm an American, an Army brat, but growing up on another continent informed me of the differences in cultures and just b/c we may think there is something wrong with it HERE, does not necessarily make it WRONG in general. Just remember that there is a whole WORLD out there and the cultural mores of the U.S.A. do not apply to the vast majority of it's population.
Yeah, but HERE is where WDW is AT, and Peeing in public is wrong HERE, so in
general I think those other folks need to GET a CLUE and as far as I am concerned they need to LEARN the CULTURAL MORES of the U.S.A. if that's where they decide to visit because I don't know about you, but I don't like seeing people pee in public and I don't like explaining it to my kids!

Jan '05 I took my son and GD to the Cirque show. I had bought our tickets early and had excellent seats on the lower level about 6 rows up center secction right next to the aisle. A Brazillian couple had apparently managed to get two seats just before the show started, but he was right next to me and his wife was way on the side in the upper level. He asked me to change seats with her, so that they could sit together. When I refused he said that if I didn't she would have to sit by herself. Well excuse me, but if I changed then I'd be sitting by myself, plus I bought the more expensive tickets months before so I'd have good seats next to my family. Well he got huffy and started talking about rude Ammericans. When the show started he pulled out a video camera and started filming. I politely reminded him they had just made the announcement that videotaping was not allowed. He sarcastically said 'then you should have changed seats with my wife and the light wouldn't bother you'. A CM almost immediately came down and told him videotaping was not allowed. Suddenly the man insisted he couldn't speak English. I politely said, 'that's funny you were speaking fluent English just a moment ago'. The man on the other side of the Brazillian got involved and said not only was he speaking fluent English, 'but he's been a pain in the neck ever since he sat down, ruining the show for all of us'. The CM told the man to either behave or he'd be escorted out if necessary. A little while later he pulled out his video camera again. Before I could say anything the man on the other side of him smiled politely and asked him if he needed to call security down again as he'd have no problem doing so. The Brazillian finally flopped back in his seat and glared at both of us as we smiled nicely.

Just wanted to say.. there may be a lot of countries where men do pee in the bushes etc. but that doesn't say it's acceptable behaviour.
Yes, here you also see men peeing on the side of the road, but it's still disgusting and not the norm as some people may believe.

And besides if you can get on a plane and travel to a foreign country you should know how to behave when you get there!!

I do think Disney should invest more in their CM's so that they will step up and say something if they witness inappropriate behaviour/clothing etc. There are rules and the purpose is not to make it less enjoyable for you, but more enjoyable for everyone. Unfortunately as everyone seems to think that the world revolves around them (and their family) nowadays everyone thinks the rules are for everyone else and don't apply to them. (getting off of soapbox now..)

Maybe it was the way I was raised but my parents taught me (and I am teaching my kids) that when you think you see the end of the line, ask the last person, if it is indeed the end.

As for people cutting in line I will nicely tell them the end of the line is back there and if they are rude or dont move I will start start getting loud until I embarrasse them to move. I find that ususally if one person says something more people will chime in. But no one wants to be the first to be 'rude to people cutting in line'.

About a month ago, I was in line for Soarin' and a group of young lads ran past me, cutting in line. A moment later, their friend tried to do the same thing, but I stopped him. He said he wanted to catch up with his friends, so I told him if he eanted to be with his friends than they could come back to him. He was not getting ahead of me. He wasn't happy, and his line jumping friends up ahead were not happy. Eventually, one of his buddies came back and unhooked the chain to let his friend go up and join them. I explained to the kid that I would report them, if this kid insisted in line jumping. Was it worth getting thrown out of the park? So, this second kid went back up to his buddies. When we approached the boarding area, the line jumpers up ahead told the cm that their friend was back there. I told the cm, that they were all line jumpers. Then the cm let this kid behind me join his line jumping friends up ahead of me!!!! What kind of lesson is this to these boys? :furious:

Can guests (who possess cell phones) call Disney security?

If you yourself when pointing out the incident asked for your family to be let in ahead of the line cutters what would that CM have done? Math or computer science PhD needed to understand next comment: If you arrived before the line cutter and the line cutter is admitted ahead of you then shouldn't you be allowed to get further ahead, ahead of the line cutter?

What if it was a show like Little Mermaid and when you finally got to the entrance the show was full?

WDW CMs are instructed not to upset guests. They will normally bend over backward to keep a guest happy. Unfortunately, that may work for or against us. In my situation, I could have made a scene. The CM taking orders was an older lady who barely spoke English herself. It was very crowded in the area and would have proved disturbing to many guests if I'd pushed it. I don't know if I did the right thing. I'm normally not an aggressive person. I don't like to make a scene. I will say that I'm getting real tired of seeing this type of behavior.

In the case of the kids cutting in line and the CM not stopping them, I agree that the CM made a mistake. The CM probably thought it was the path of least resistance and could just keep things moving. It sent the wrong message to the kids who cut the line and the guest who reported them. But, to give the CM the benefit of the doubt, they are in a tough position. If they make a big deal out of something and it turns ugly, there supervisor might not appreciate it. I'm not saying that is the way it should be, but it certainly could happen.

My sister is a CM. She's seen things that would make you hair stand on end, but the CMs normally can't do anything about it. She said something once to a guest (child) who was doing something in her shop that he shouldn't have been doing. Her supervisor saw it. While she didn't get in trouble, he did make a remark to her about how he'd get a nasty letter over the incident. Believe me, my sister was in the right on this. The CMs really don't have the power a lot of people think they have.

I reallllllly want to know how people know these people are brazilians? Are they wearing T's or something? How can you tell? I know a whole heck of a lot of Brazilians & have been to Brazil, and they don't really have a uniform "look" about them...So I'm seriously curious.

Also, I totally agree with this:
"If they were able to come here from another country, then they are most likely educated and should know better"
It is the more affluent (and likely educated) people who can make it here, so you would ASSUME they'd be able to LEARN. Perhaps they don't care, I don't know.

We are travellers, spend a lot of time in foreign countries, including Brazil, MX, and some parts of Europe and so, none of this behavior would be shocking to me at all. This is how it is there, I'm well aware of it. It's still gross though.

When we travel, we're generally with natives who know the customs and make us well aware. That's a great thing to have around.

We have rude people all over the world and also here is the US. Dosen't matter if they are from someone else or from the US. they still are rude. This I blame on the parents who are suppose to be teaching them respect.

Where is Disney security??? I alway thought they were watching to protect visiters.  party: party: party:

Naked babies don't bother me either (I'm not sure any of these comments actually meant they were bothered by naked babies). However, as a parent, I would never have my child of ANY age naked in public, especially Walt Disney World. Why? Because of the fact that there are so many pedophiles out there! Well, actually, I think the actual number of pedophiles is quite low, and it seems like more since we are constantly told about them (which, by the way, I think is very good).

BUT, I would be particularly cautious with something as simple as keeping my child's clothes on someplace like Walt Disney World, where there are a lot of kids. I think a lot of people have this belief that nothing bad can happen at Disney, and bad people aren't there. My thinking is different, though-- I tend to think that pedophiles would be attracted to places where there are a lot of kids (such as Disney World, or the local park/playground).

I don't think it is being paranoid, but I would not take my child's clothes off in public like that.

The rude Brazilians that I have seen are the tour groups with T-shirts that say "Brasil" on them.

is against the law ! ! !

WDW has security; isn't there phones near by (like perhaps a in house phone)
exposing yourself in our city will land you in "jail"; I wouldn't want to ruin someone's "Magical" day; but peeing in front of me or any of my family member would ruin it for me.......YUCK ! ! That individual would be doing the pokey dance all the way to the POKEY.

We're going to WDW in Nov. 06 & I hope we don't see any behavior like that. My DH is ::cop: and I don't think he'd take to kindly to that, nor should anyone especially a CM. I can't believe they can't really do anything about it. Really, all they'd have to do was radio security a description & they could quietly escort whomever out of the park and/or give them a summons/citation for exposing themselves in public. But.....at the same time it is a private park, does Disney go by their own laws or the county laws, I'm sure federal laws. :confused3 I'm not the ::cop: so I don't know.

I'm so sorry for anyone who has seen this; I'm sorry, I'd just have to say something to somebody. :furious:

I agree!! It is against the law! What kind of family place is WDW if it allows such behavior? If the CM's don't do anything to these people then what stops everyone else from just peeing all over the place? :confused3
