Saw an article about some Canadian cruisers being denied

Someone had asked about the wording (bolded) at the DCL board...why wouldn't it say, only for US residents?

Seems strange they used the wording "arriving from"...maybe I'm reading into it to much. I thought perhaps it means directly arriving to the port from outside US.
I don't know how DCL would know where you were just prior to literally arriving at the port -- 2 hours prior or 2 days prior or 2 weeks prior. I suspect it has to do with the vaccine proof moreso than the residency. It's possible that non-US residents are here or have been vaccinated here. Maybe they could have said with CDC vaccination proof, but then again I'm not sure that all in the US received a "CDC" card if vaccinated by a pharmacy chain, and some places apparently didn't give any card/receipt/etc. Vaccine proof is a major mess in the US.

Yes, I agree. I don't think there is a sure way to confirm where you were before you got to the port.

Here in Canada, we get detailed receipts, downloads and recorded in our health units..so it's easy to provide proof regardless of where you get it.

Vaccine proof is very different from province-to-province here in Canada as well. In Ontario our paper slip can be easily forged, while other provinces have been issued plastic cards. Some proof-of-vaccinations show both doses, while ours in Ontario only shows the second dose, but notes 2 doses were administered. So very inconsistent.

I was vaccinated in Wellington Dufferin Guelph Health Unit ( in Ontario, Canada) and received a printed certificate for both my vaccines. Also they emailed me copies. I agree that it would be easy to forge! I carry them around, not sure why.20210723_133629.jpg

I'm curious how they would even know. If you are from Ontario and you mixed vaccines, the vaccine paper that you get only states the second dose vaccine. So there are people who, for example, had AstraZeneca Dose 1 and Pfizer Dose 2. The Ontario vaccine slip (which is all we get) in this case would say "2 Valid Doses" and the vaccine part only references Pfizer (nothing about the first dose). So unless a cruise line has access to the Ontario government health care records system, how would they even know that someone mixed?
I have no idea how it will work for the cruiselines, but I know for arrival into Canada, you have to upload photos of BOTH vaccination receipts to show your proof of vaccination. So they will know when you got each dose and what they were! the cruiselines could do something similar. We're in Ontario as well and we didn't even get a paper receipt for our first dose but I did get an electronic receipt. I got both paper and electronic for my second dose.

That really depends on the vaccine. Many childhood vaccinations are done months apart, or even years apart, with no requirement to use the same brand. Nobody really pays any attention to what brand of Tdap booster you get every 10 years, or even if you only get the Td booster instead...
I stand corrected. I only know about animal vaccines!

Good to know! Coming back is not an issue since it's Canada :) Did you travel to the U.S.? If so, does each family member have to do their own ArriveCan? Or can I do it for everyone (they don't let you do much until 72 hours before your return flight so I can't really see very much in the app right now. We head to WDW in a couple of weeks.

So does this mean that if you are a non US citizen you have to pay out of pocket for a vaccine test before you can cruise and again at the port?

And I don't really know anything about animal vaccines -- couldn't even tell you what diseases to say nothing of brands :-)

But that's one thing that surprises me with people getting all hung-up about the brand. Most other diseases that we vaccinate against have multiple brands available, but nobody ever pays attention to what brand. Tetanus/diphtheria with or without pertussis, meningitis, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, flu, HPV... all require multiple doses but there are multiple brands available. It's always recommended to get the same brand, and most probably do assuming you go back to the same doctor's office for each dose, but nobody pays attention to the brand.

That's one interpretation of the rules DCL just released -- but I don't know if anyone has received confirmation on it. Other cruiselines may or may not accept whatever proof you have.

I downloaded the images to my phone, which should do for now. Once Canada comes up with a proper card/QR code/whatever we'll be able to use that, I hope.

Only one ArriveCAN app needed per family :) We are going to Punta Cana next month and my hubby has the app (I've downloaded it too) and all our info for all 4 of us will go in his app.

Yes I was going to say the same, only one needed per family! We're leaving again next week to visit my family in the US for the first time since Christmas so we will see how it's different! When we had to quarantine in January we were getting individual phone calls for all 4 of us, sometimes at the same time! Lol

In Nova Scotia we only received digital proof of vaccination, no cards or papers. You need to log into a website with your Health Card to pull up your vaccination record.

Except aren't those vaccines the same? Like it's the same chemical build just someone else making it. So like a Chevy Tahoe built in Indiana or Texas. The covid vaccine is like a Chevy Tahoe in Indiana and a Kia Telluride from California.

Maybe I am wrong though and those childhood vaccination brands are actually different?

Vaccine proof is a major mess in the US.

Depends who you ask.

There are reasons on both sides of the aisle to not have a centralized vaccination record system and not require any identification for vaccination.

Everyone should be given a paper vaccination card in the US (correct me if I am wrong). That is the reference for submitting that you are vaccinated.

There are different patented brands. Not just the same molecule by a different manufacturer, like Motrin vs Advil vs store brand ibuprofen. It's more like Advil vs Aleve vs Tylenol.

I understand there are many in the US who did not receive any such documentation. Whether they somehow managed to walk off without it, or none were available, or simply not given out.
