We had a great experience, but an unusual one as DH and I were the only people on the 5 pm tour. We loved having our own private vehicle, and enjoyed stopping on the savannah to speak with the zookeeper about the animals who live there. Because it was only us two, we asked our safari guide and servers to join us around the table at the savannah overlook so we could all talk. DH and I had (much) wine and enjoyed the really interesting tapas-style food while the giraffes and springboks went charging around. Best of all was getting to know these well-educated and committed young ladies who were passionate about the animals; it was such a pleasure to learn about them and how they got where they were and where they hoped to go next. One of our "bartenders" will be leading an Adventures by Disney tour this summer. The other has a masters in archaeology and hopes to one day be part of a real dig site. On our ride back to Harambe, we stopped to visit with a couple of rhinos, one of which our safari tour guide had known since birth. They were close enough to touch (but we didn't of course). Just spending a few minutes so close to these endangered creatures was blissful.
At the conclusion of our tour we got to use rocks to choose which endangered animal's conservation we wanted a portion of our tour price to go to, and then we each received a set of souvenir bamboo coasters, which we will treasure as a memory of our "VIP" private tour of the savannah!
