Saw this tonight.

Loved the nostalgia of seeing the Sherman Brothers and Uncle Walt and Disneyland circa 1961.

But the heart of the movie is the flashbacks to Travers' childhood and the relationships, past and present.

Very interesting and complex story.

Looking forward to seeing this. Need more movies about my idol, WED

We just walked in from seeing it and we thoroughly enjoyed the film. And as good as the adults were, the young actress who played Travers as a child was equally impressive.

BTW be sure to stay through the credits

So who exactly is Mr. Banks?

The dad on Mary Poppins...he was too involved in his work etc. in the beginning and then Mary Poppins helped him see the importance of cherishing his kids etc.

They should have had Dick Van Dyke play the old head banker man on the set, like he did in the movie. That would have been classic.

I was planning on seeing this tomorrow... But after reading some comments on here tonight I'm more excited to go see it.

Two problems with that.

The story focuses on development of the movie. Travers was back in England when the movie was filmed.

And she did not lije Dick Van Dyck.

Just saw it as well. I laughed; I cried. Mary Poppins was the first movie I ever saw at a cinema. I was five yrs old wen it came out, and we saw it at Graumman's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd! I loved Saving Mr. Banks. Very family friendly.

This has PG-13 rating - is it a fair rating. I know some of the darker issues it deals with, ftr. Would you take kids any younger than that (thinking 8-10 yr olds)?

DH and I are going to go see it on Sunday morning (yep, when tickets are only $7, lol!)

Mary Poppins was very special to us as it was one of the first movies we recorded on tv for DD who was 2 or 3 at the time. She watched it....and watched it.....and watched it..... and watched it. We knew it by heart!

As we were leaving the theatre I looked over the audience and commented to DW that a lot of us there had special memories of Mary Poppins I bet

It's got some dark themes, especialy the flashbacks to Travers' childhood in Australia. Not for very young children.

I've also read a couple of posts saying children would be bored during a lot of it. Would you agree?

It's a movie about complex relationships. You, as an adult Disney fan, will love it. But it's not "about Disney".

This is definitely not a movie a child would love. Adults, yes, you'll LOVE it! :thumbsup2

It is not about Disney parks, cartoons, laughing animated creatures, or anything kids would enjoy. This movie is about the intense, complex and painful childhood of a woman author and the hell she put the Disney studio through in order to secure the rights to her book.

This is an adult movie. I found it an incredible story and would see it again. A child would also see it as an adult movie and be bored out of his/her mind.

It was a great depiction of how many adults are walking wounded, big kids trying to live life in an adult body, but trapped by the trauma of their childhood.

After reading further stories of her life and her reaction to the original film, (she was appalled and angry and wanted the movie edited right away!), I realize she had very deep issues and unhealed wounds and it is mostly amazing Walt Disney was able to get the rights in the first place! It made me very sad for her...truly. But the story and the movie...WOW! :lovestruc
