Saving Mr. Banks

Saw the movie friday and loved it! So much am going back this week. What a beautiful story. Colin Farrel i have to say is amazing! I had no idea he was even in the film, but to me his scenes were beautiful and heartbreaking. I highly recommend it!

I love this movie. It is such a Disney-made movie. It was shot on the lot, ADR'ed on the lot, edited on the lot, and mixed on the lot.

The LA premiere was on the lot, too.

Ok.. saw it at dtd. Amc fork and screen.
Still speechless... but after reading more comments I agree hole heartedly. This is an adult movie but a perfect DISNEY movie. I feel Tom Hanks knocked it out of the park. I just need to go again. I loved it that much.

I saw the preview at the Disney Studios, and there was a walking tour. In one of the sound stages, there was a film running with Richard Sherman and Jason Schwartzman (who plays Richard in the movie) talking about making the movie. Richard Sherman was moved to tears in some of the scenes where Jason was portraying him. He said it was like living it over again. I hope they include that interview on the dvd when it comes out. It really moved me.

I've also read a couple of posts saying children would be bored during a lot of it. Would you agree?

My 9 year old grandson fell asleep in the movie theatre last night in the middle of the movie.
Personally, I think the kids would have a better time with a pizza party/babysitter while adults have a night out at the movie.

We loved this movie! It is a very complex story and was skillfully woven together. I had many favorite parts but especially loved the conversation that Walt Disney had with P L Travers about dealing with childhood memories. It was so profound and wise. The scenes from her childhood were very good. I got so choked up about the pears. That poor child.

Stay for the credits. They show old photos and play part of the actual recordings she insisted they make.

Definitely not a movie that would interest young children but is a must see.

We loved it. The cast was amazing. Actually, one of my favorite roles was Ralph, the driver for Mrs. ;)

I saw it a couple of weeks ago and loved it! It made me laugh and cry, and I can't wait to see it again! Mary Poppins was the first film I saw at the cinema, so it holds very special memories :goodvibes
I really don't think it would be suitable for children, possibly teens and older?

Claire :)

Blown away by Colin Farrell. I honestly didn't know he was in the movie.

I envisioned a completely different movie, but after seeing it, I'm happy I didn't know. I might not have seen it. It was a beautiful movie and I spent most of it crying over PL Travers (or whatever name she wants to be called) heartbreak. Tom Hanks was almost a side thought, a supporting role. It was great. My family (ages 15 , 21, 43 & 67) were all equally touched.

I loved that part too. Paul Giamatti is such a good actor. And the way his story fit into the picture was beautiful.

I had the exact same feelings. Enjoyed the movie very much but was not expecting how sad I'd feel for P.L. Travers.

DH & I both liked it, my 16 and 18 year old boys, not so much (just think they were expecting something different).

Definitely not a movie for younger children.

Did have a very Disney feel to it.

Loved the interactions between P.L. Travers & Ralph (Paul Giamatti's character)

I think it depends very much on the child. While I wouldn't bring a young child to it, I saw it this afternoon with DS14 and DD10 (fifth grade) and we all enjoyed it very much.

Now, I will say that DD had some things working in her favor to help her enjoy the movie: she knows the movie Mary Poppins very well, she knows more than most children about the life of Walt Disney (as I imagine many of our kids do) and she has always been interested in historical pieces. (books, movies etc...)

I showed her reviews before we went so that she would be familiar with the basic story line and know this was not a children's movie. I also showed her that a number of sites did not recommend it for her age: we saw anything from ages 10+ to 14+ when we were looking. I also asked her if she knew what alcoholism and suicide were (she did).

In the end, I let her make the decision and it turned out to be the right one.

We went to an early show and there was primarily adults there with a handful of teens. There was only one other child who appeared to be about the same age as my daughter or maybe a little younger. I didn't ask her if she liked it, but she didn't squirm or leave her seat or appear to be bored.

What a great movie! We saw it last night and loved it. Our boys, ages 15 and 18, loved it as well. They were both riveted the whole time.

We were on the Disney Fantasy for the Prem Ear as they called it, on Friday morning at 12:01 am. I really enjoyed the movie, but will have to see it again because we were tired from our day. There was a lot of sniffling and eye wiping going on at the end, myself included.

Did anyone notice, the scene where Mrs. Travers shows up in Walt's office near the end, there was a map of Florida on an easel in the back with Orlando circled? I thought that was pretty neat.

Great movie!

Great movie!

I noticed it and whispered to my DW about it

I gave DD the choice today between going to see Saving Mr. Banks or Walking With Dinosaurs and she chose Saving Mr. Banks. If a non-animated movie can hold a 4-year-old's attention for 2 hours, it's good. I thought both the story and the film were incredible. :goodvibes I'm one of those people who will watch a movie once and then not feel the need to watch it again, but I will happily sit down with this one again!

Yes. :thumbsup2 DS14 and I were whispering about it.

So many great details.

The acting is superb. The film's charm comes from seeing Walt and the Shermans on screen. But the story itself? Clunky and poorly put together. I'm honestly shocked at the praise it's receiving. I enjoyed it very much for the nostalgia factor, but in order for a film stand out you can't rely on nostalgia alone.

I've also heard that it's highly embellished and many of the events portrayed didn't really happen, but I'd still like to go see it.
