Saving coins

If you save coins to supplement your trip how much money have you been able to collect in one year? Two year's? Etc.

We average about $3-400 a year in our coin jar but we use it for Christmas.

We have been saving coins since January and have saved about $300 dollars. I was curious so I started counting the quarters over $100. I want it to be a surprise so I didn't count it all. I will cash it in at my bank a few days before we leave. We leave August 5! I am hoping to have at least $350 for additional spending money.

It reallly depends. I have a separate jar for pennies ---- one of those huge bear jars that animal crackers came in. I think once that's filled, it *may* be $150 in pennies. As for my regular coin jar, I would think about $300-$500 a year depending on how you do your saving. For example, I NEVER give cashier coins, even if my item comes to $3.07. I just hand them bills and all the change will go in my jars. Also, when I do my bottle returns, I ask for it all in change and that goes in my jar as well.

I've used my jar money for Broadway show tickets, Christmas, outlet shopping. We have yet to take a vacation but when we do start planning one, I will absolutely use the change jar strictly for that so we'll have fun money for souveniers, etc.

Between $300-$500. Enough for a rental car anyway, that's what we always have used it for in the past. Of course, now the kids don't live at home, so there is less people putting money in, so the "haul" is less. I'd say it would now be nearer the $300 mark.

We started saving coins in a jug 20 years ago when we were newly married and just starting out. Back then, we converted the coins to dollars and used those for vacation. Now we just put it into savings. We average about $500-600 just in change. My husband, who is pretty frugal, still gets a small thrill from seeing the total of those coins every year.

I average between $500-$600 per year. I use these towards my Disney Vacation Club annual dues.

I don't spend that much cash in a year, let alone save up that much of the change from my cash....
