Savi’s and Droid Depot Price increase

And still no new lightsaber configurations that we were told about back at Celebration.

Right?? I was considering doing it for the new Power and Control hilts they showed at SW Celebration because they look so much better than the current ones but not at that price. I think that ship has sailed for me unfortunately.

Mine is P&C. I'm hoping that I can just buy some of the new scrap from the check-in area and fit it with my current build.

Does anyone know the policy on return/replacement?

We built 2 in February and both do not work. When turning on they go on/off, on/off. on/off over and over again. Seems to be a loose connection somewhere.

for $440 I expect these things would last at least a year before crapping out.

You never called before today? I would think the return period has expired?

So it’s my understanding that even if you already had a future reservation you still will have to pay the increased price. That’s disappointing. Not surprising though.

They should honor the price as it was when the reservation is made. I can't cancel it now because my kids know and are so excited but I want to cancel it out of principle. This is just pure greed, inflation has not gone up that much. This is $50 more than the original price in 2019. I already decided against the portrait session when they decided to triple that from the introductory price. My kids are so excited about our Starcruiser trip but honestly, after this I'm done with Disney until Cheapek and DiMoreio are out, which given the pure profit they're generating with all these increases, probably won't be anytime soon.

I'm annoyed. I booked this experience 64 days in advance. And they change the price for Oct. 18th now. Why not 60 or so days ago? Our Why not say any new reservations starting tomorrow or something? So frustrating.

I’m irritated there was no rumor or warning. We go in 24 days and out of nowhere “hey…plan for an additional $130” (3 sabers, 2 droids). Not only that but it used to be if you booked a reservation for a table serve or an experience at one price they’d honor that price but with covid they changed that policy and now unless you’ve prepaid then whenever there’s a price change your sol.

This is our last trip. I know prices are bound to rise and I was ok with steady increases but these past 2 years prices have jumped substantially.

Us too. At the end of 2019 we loved our WDW trip so much I was making bids on resale DVC contracts. We had a second DCL cruise booked with more planned. They would have had us locked in for at least another decade of vacations. After this one, it’s going to be Universal for theme parks, and other domestic or international travel destinations, but not WDW anymore. Maybe we’ll be replaced by some other high-spending family, but you know what? Most people who have the money to afford the new Disney didn’t get it by being stupid. They want good value for their money like anyone else. Once they recognize they’re not getting it, they’ll move on too.

Our Jan 2020 trip was amazing! We had so many unique and magical experiences (my daughter got her first haircut and Mary Poppins came in and chatted with her it made me cry, we walked right in and got a private dual meet with Elsa and Anna, ordering fish and chips and turning around to see Alice right there with my husband…) I was planning to go right again, had a trip booked for that nov and Disney shut down cancelled all our reservations and we had amazing reservations…my daughter was going to do the boutique in magic kingdom, son was doing savis at the $200 price tag we had all the restaurants we wanted. I even splurged on getting the dining plan at cost because it was such a good convience (I can be nit picky on vacation about food…asking the kids or husband to split meals and stuff and the dining plan meant everyone could order because it was an expense I didn’t need to think about)… we’ve been trying to go back ever since but I had 2 surgeries and my parents were hesistant. Hindsight is 20/20.

I want to be clear though…if savis raised $10…heck even $15 I would’ve shrugged it off as it is what it is…$30 makes me second guess it. My guess is since savis is such a popular experience and Star Wars fans can be pretty hardcore Disney was like “they’ll pay it so why not?” I know there’s new power and control scrap coming but that was announced 4 months ago and there hasn’t been a date which it’ll be released. Droid depot is actively releasing some new items though but they are also discontinuing others…the $20 increase I guess is a little more understandable since it hasn’t risen in price but it’s still irritating. I had to tell my son we are getting him a $250 gift card but unfortunately he’ll have to cover the tax…my daughter we planned her $200 gift card to cover a droid, backpack and at least a personality chip now I’m unsure if hers will cover those…

So I'd did a little digging, and last year they raised prices on the lightsabers too, by $20, but it was for new reservations. And that means in 18 months they raised the price of the lightsabers by $50.

I knew they raised the price once, though, I didn’t realize it was so soon. A $50 increase in 18 months is wild! I also found out if you decided not to get the carrying case then the saber was still $200…at least you could opt out for awhile. I doubt you can opt out of a case now and get the saber for $200…prob can’t opt out of a case period. My husband is such a hardcore Star Wars fan he said that even at $250 it’s worth it for him to do at least once.

8'm frustrated too. I am also dealing with exchange rates so that $40 extra (two droids) is actually like $55.

The policy is 90 days.

For anyone reading be STRONGLY ADVISED these Savi workshop lightsabers are absolutely cheap and they WILL break...even if simply laying on a shelf and handled gently every a couple of weeks (i.e. NOT swinging hard and fighting with them) there are videos on youtube explaining how the soldering is very thin and very cheap and the circuitry connections are bad.

They are $250 a piece. Yes I know they come with an experience (and that is indeed a cool experience we enjoyed it) but the lightsaber itself is a piece of junk. Buyer beware.

Perhaps mileage may vary? I’ve had two sabers that safely travelled on a plane and have been in use for over a year, with only a need for battery swaps here and there. The hilts are mostly metal and therefore heavy things- meant for display over play for sure. The core electronics are probably cheaper out on- but for being a parallel to the Harry Potter Universal wand experience (albeit with a more interactive end product) the price also includes the experience and therefor seems to be in the right ballpark.

Maybe. But a google search of "how to repair a Savi's light saber" yields lots of results. they are very poorly made. they will break, even if only used sparingly and turning off/on and light swinging.

We don’t know how people are using them and for the price you should assume a park toy is not going to be as high-quality as a third party saber.
