SaveDisney.com & Hurricanes??

For those of you who follow SaveDisney.com and that whole effort ... has anyone heard anything from Roy regarding the hurricanes and the hurricane relief? Eisner and Rasulo were very public after Charley, and a lot was made about the various Disney Hand donations to the American Red Cross, etc. But I don't remember hearing anything from the Roy & Stan camp.

Not that it's required, of course, but Roy made such a big thing about how he was the person coming down on the side of the hard-working cast member, and that he was the one looking out for CM interests and how the CMs were the lifeblood of the Save Disney movement. I was just wondering if there had been any indication that he'd donated to hurricane relief -- or if there were any messages on the Web site that I might have missed.

Anyone see / hear anything??

My dear friend WDSearcher...

We all know for a fact he was away racing his very large sailboat! Good for him he won, but you have an extremely valid point.

Hey ... I'm just askin'. ;)

If ME hadn't said / done anything after Charley or Frances, there'd have been plenty of traffic on it. And, even when he did, he got slammed a little bit. It's only fair to ask about the other side.

And, truly ... after the number of CMs who helped Roy get SaveDisney.com to where it is in the first place, I don't think a message of support on the website is too much to expect.

But that's just me.

And, even when he did, he got slammed a little bit.

That's because the vast majority of people consider him to be genuinely disingenuous!
Rather than put out some press releases, send a email or two and cut a few checks from his slush fund;

why, in his role to be seen as a caring envisioned leader, displaying the ideals of "Disney", did we not see AP photos of ME down in Port Charlotte or some other place which was blown away with a shovel in his hand?

The company gets alot and owes a larger obligation to the State of FLorida than any other I can think of!
Surely, that wouldn't be too much to expect from the CEO?

And, truly ... after the number of CMs who helped Roy get SaveDisney.com to where it is in the first place

Do you perhaps count yourself within this group?
Just askin'! :) ;)

DVConvert, no offense but that is ridiculous. Disney was a shining star with huge donations during the Charley cleanup and has reportedly been very generous and concerned for CM's...Eisner doesn't live in Florida and has no personal ties to Florida. It is silly to suggest that he needs to 'get dirty' in such a show of support. I haven't seen Wayne Huizinga, Mickey Arison, any members of the Busch family or any other of the Florida bigshots out doing anything either...

Peter, no offense, but that is ridiculous to say Ei$ner has no personal ties to Florida. WDW 's operations in that 47 square mile area ALONE must contribute up to .000005% of his weekly salary! He has a vested 'personal' interest. This could have been an oportunity for him to stage some events to bolster his flagging image!

It is silly to suggest that he needs to 'get dirty' in such a show of support.

It's silly to suggest that remaining aloft in the ivory tower will be all he needs to do to win over the hearts of "the little midgets".

I haven't seen Wayne Huizinga, Mickey Arison, any members of the Busch family or any other of the Florida bigshots out doing anything either...

Maybe you should watch fox? ;)

Hey, I watch Fox...When I need a laugh! But I haven't seen the other rich guys doing anything, have you? (seriously).

Now as for ridiculous...No, let's speak of personal ties, I believe what you described was purely work related...If Disney were to wish to show a personal involvement it would seem to me to have to come from Al Weiss and the WDW execs, not some pin heads from California...I think if Eisner showed up to cut some trees or something it would just look (again) ridiculous.

Y'know ... I was, at the beginning. And then Roy and Stan just started coming off as grumpy old men who had more of a personal vendetta against Eisner than they did a plan in place to "Save Disney." So now ... not so much.

Although Roy would have gained points in my eyes had we seen HIM stopping by the theme parks to see how the CMs were doing, or if we'd heard that he (or Shamrock Investments) had donated to the hurricane relief fund. I don't know that Eisner put in any personal money to aid the cast members affected, but the company sure did it's share and then some. For both the CMs and the surrounding community. I'd have liked to have seen something -- even a mass mail letter of support -- from Roy. He could have used the same mailing lists he used in the "Oust Eisner" campaign.

Yeah, yeah, I have....This is from TODAY....

"Bush Back in Florida to See Hurricane Damage"
Wed Sep 8, 4:43 PM ET

By Caren Bohan
MIAMI (Reuters) President Bush got a look at damage from Hurricane Frances on Wednesday and doled out food and water to Florida residents in his fourth visit in a month to a state vital to his re-election hopes.

"The federal government is doing everything we can to help you," Bush said at the National Hurricane Center.

Facing a government deadline to get relief operations in place by midday, Bush and his brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, earlier handed out bags of food, ice and bottled water in the parking lot of a recreation center in Fort Pierce, Florida.

apparently...this is the President's FOURTH trip to Florida within the past four weeks!

Personally...I think you're "safe" to assume he did not.

Why do you expect this from an elderly guy, when Ei$ner doesn't do it himself? Roy isn't even employed by the company anymore due to Ei$ner's firing him!

I think Peter was refering to Busch not Bush.

Busch as in Anheuser-Busch owners of Sea World and Busch Gardens. Anheuser-Busch donated16,000 cases (total) of canned water for Charley and Francis and 100K to the Red Cross and Salvation Army Charley relief funds. They have not announced a Francis donation.

I don't know what, if anything, they did for individual Sea World employees after the storms.

Right you are Radio, but I suspect our friend the Convert knows that I wouldn't consider "Bush" much of a Floridian...And actually I find his coming to FL as nothing more than getting in the way (and I'd feel the same about Clinton or Kerry)...Jeb, of course has to pretend that he cares.:teeth: (joke)

Those are also impressive corporate contributions made by Busch, but (for Convert) did we actaually see any of August's kin out cutting trees?

As for expectations from Roy, I agree that physical labor or even presence wasn't necessary but you'd think so effort of compassion to the CM's he claims to care so much about would be in order...

Why was this brought up? Why is half the stuff on this board brought up? :p

Someone mentioned it to me at work, asking if I'd heard anything about anything Roy or his camp had done to support the CMs. I said that I hadn't, but that I hadn't really been looking. So ... I started looking, and didn't find anything, which just seemed strange to me, considering Roy's earlier rallying of CMs for the Save Disney cause.

So, I posted here to see if people who keep a closer eye on the Save Disney movement might have seen or heard something that I missed. And, well ... to stir up discussion too, of course. Jim Hill's going on about how the Roy & Stan camp seems to be losing steam, and how there doesn't seem to be anything happening there. And Roy's voice has been noticably absent over the past months. This would have been a good way for him to remind us all that he's out there, keeping an eye on what's happening at WDW. Since it's the place he's trying to save and all.

No more or less motive than anyone else who posts a topic or asks a question.

:earsboy:

Why? Just discussion, I guess...And a pretty civil one at that!:teeth:

Just want to point out that Eisner DID personally come to WDW after Charley and talk with CMs, according to other postings on this board.

Did each and every affected Floridian ultimately receive equal treatment, either immediately or as a gift certificate or tax credit good anytime in the future?

No, of course they didn't. But then, each and every affected Floridian was affected differently. And I'd hope that someone with a little bit of water damage to their porch furniture would not seek nor deserve the same type of relief as does someone who lost the roof on their house. And I would also hope that people who DIDN'T suffer major damage wouldn't even try to get the kind of major relief someone who lost their roof, home, or car would get.
