Saved people money

First off, I wish you well in your fight. I have a friend with it. She had to be very careful about germs. Take care of yourself and I do think it was nice to rent at that price.

Second, I am going to rent points to my best friend. Being they are in law enforcement, I know they do not have much excess. However, by me renting them points, it is probably the only way they can go especially to stay on site. They love animals so AKL is perfect for them. We are actually going also so it will be a lot of fun, I hope. Can you give me a range you would rent. I think I read normally, it is $11-$12, but if it was a really close friend of 25 yrs or so, what would you do? Would it change anything? She, nor her husband expect anything. They are just telling me to let them know. I am thinking it would be nice to make some off our available points (for MF)and give them a chance to take the girls to the world. Thanks!!!

We have a friend who is a firefighter and we have taken him and his family twice. We don't charge him anything for the stay because we have a great time with them at WDW. But, if your friends insist on paying something, why not just charge them what your dues would be on those points? Say, $5 a point? Or what it might cost them for a value resort at the same time?

Yasuern,

I think what you did was very considerate and I'm sure the renters will have a great trip. With today's economy, it will be difficult for many to travel. Good luck with your treatment!

in my world we refer to that as A RAK... random act of kindness...i hope that some day one comes my way...and you all should hope so....

Yasuern - good luck with everything. I'm keeping you in my prayers. I hope you will be healthy and can soon return to WDW with your family :grouphug:

Hi Everyone,

First thanks to all those who agreed that I may rent MY points at any price I wish -:thumbsup2

Deb & Bill

I have never been disliked by someone who has never met me before - you may not like what I did but me you don't even know me or WHY I did what I did.

Little background

I LOVE WDW my family and I have been going the 1st week in december since my dgt was in 2nd grade(now in 8th) - I would have been going this December except I found out in May I had Luekemia - long story short - I just had a bone marrow transplant in September and can not be in crowds or do much of anything until 100 days past transplant.

I rented my points to make alittle money until GOD WILLING the transplant works and in about 6 months I may return to work. When we bought our points one contract cost $72.00/pt direct from wdw (VWL) and then we purchased 2 resales both at OKW one at $62/pt and one at $67/pt we owe nothing on our contracts and really were just looking to make enough money to cover the yearly dues/fees .

If the richest person in the world got a bargain from me - well maybe thats why he/she has extra money;)

And finally my price per point - exactly HOW does this devalue the product?

When you are in the market to buy say a lawnmower are YOU going to pay the higher price so YOU don't devalue the product or are you going to look for the best price?

Didn't mean to make a thread with such contraversy - I had just never realized how much people save when renting and as my original post stated its a bargain even at $11-12/pt.

OP.

God Bless and I am sure you will do fine. We will keep you in our prayers.

To all

In regards to anything devaluing DVC, can we say the same about many things?

I am a DVC Owner and a Disney Stock Owner with a decent amount of shares but I won't be retiring off of them tomorrow.

Does the $100 off DVC members get off of an AP devalue my Disney Stock? Free Dining? Hotel Codes? How about offsite hotels, that is taking money away from Disney hotels and the bottom line which affects the stock. I could go on and on.

I bet if a car dealership had brand new 2009 Mercedes on sale for 25% of the MRSP no one would give a rats behind if it devalued another dealership or not, they would probably buy it if they were in the market for one.

Deb & Bill are really good people and have actually gave me some good advice in the past on the boards, but as you can tell renting does touch a nerve with many people. It used to touch a nerve with me as well to be honest with you, but I decided why should I be counting other peoples money. Some of the threads regarding the same topic have gotten down right brutal. Throw SSR in the mix and all hell usually breaks loose.

Public forums will get all kinds of responses, some you agree with and some you don't.

At the end of the day, until someone starts depositing money into your account, I wouldn't worry about what other people say as long as you are happy.

You said this so well and so nicely. :goodvibes I don't know most of the people on most of the boards but sometimes the response do get down right brutal and I always feel bad for someone. But I read your post and said "they are right" Thanks for the words of wisdome.

to the OP - sending Pixie Dust your way and hoping someone "passes it forward to you" :wizard:

Now... if I had just given my points away to charity, I could agree with you... I think you are trying to look at the situation through the best possible lenses. This was not a charitable contribution. I too would feel good about making another's vacaction come true, but this does not have anything to do with increasing the value of the resort or DVC. Happy camper.. yes.. elevating values... No.

Edit: Let me followup by saying I do agree with DVC never being billed as an investment. Unless someone decides they need or want to sell their contract it really isn't an issue. I think the rental value of our points has struggled to hold ground. This is the area where I see the market value taking a hit from this.

Just a thought.

2 months ago gas was almost 4 bucks a gallon at a local fuel station. I filled up yesterday for $2.39 at the same station.

The gas was of the same quality on both occasions.

Same quality of gas, same pump. Heck I even used the same credit credit card to pay for it.

Should I have went to the cashier and demanded that she charge me $4.00 per gallon so that I not short change the credit card company the % of sale for use of their credit card, possibly help curb the sliding price of crude, help with the sales tax on fuel, not take away funding for exploratory drilling from the oil company?

I mean if we keep pay 4 buck a gallon, just think of all the good we could do.

Would anyone else done so?

Heck, I am hoping it is $1.99 next time I fill up.

OP
I have no opinion on this discussion. I just wanted to wish you well in your post transplant recovery. I hope you are feeling strong and enjoying the fall weather. God Bless for a quick and speedy 100 days.

When we have extended our points to very close friends, we had them pay $5.00 a point, which basically pays our annual dues. We loved having them go (we also went), there was no way they could have went at regular disney prices so it was worth it to us.

Yasuern, I wish you the very best. I have a dear friend who many years ago fought leukemia and is very healthy today (15 years later). I applaud you for giving someone else a bargain trip. I firmly believe in paying it forward; it just makes the world a little nicer place to be.
