Save the Carousel of Progress!!

I feel like every trip down I'm thinking, This will be my last trip on this wonderful ride.... I can see how they're after the realestate, but this is one of Walt's!!!! They can't do anything to it!!!! But update it that is. I wouldn't mind a change of location, but I hope they keep it as a carousel!!!! Why don't they ever go after the Hall of Presidents anyway, I never see that with a bigger crowd!

 Hall of Presidents is one of my favorites! I say...don't touch HoP OR CoP!

There are those two Tomorrowland attractions however...you know...the ones sitting right across from each other...

CoP is a wonderful place to get in out of the heat. I've seen nursing moms in the last row and at the end of a long day, I've seen many young (and not so young) kids snoozing as they ride around. It's a Disney classic and needs to stay put!

That rumor has been going around off and on for years. WDW has much more real estate than Disneyland and they did just spend monry on the rehab.

I don't think it is going anywhere.:goodvibes

its been rumored for years they are going to close-i think most people dont even know its there
maybe if they knew it would be more popular

The way I understood it... in talking to some cast memebers last year. CoP is approaching end of life. Atendence for CoP is down, and maint. costs are high, further there are some parts that would be very expensive to replace should they give it up.

What they told us was that should there be a major break down, it would be the end of CoP.

in all honesty, i don't see it going anywhere anytime soon especially since it's been in MK since 1975 and a staple at the 1964 World's Fair. i would absolutely hate to see it moved b/c my family and i love it and look forward to it every trip

All together now "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of everyday..."

I totally agree. I really cant see them taking out such an important ride, or even moving it for that matter. I would really be sad if they did because like you said it was a staple at WDW since 1975 and the World's Fair at 1964. It is just a classic ride!

I hope they dont close CoP. I have loved going in there since I was a little girl and my DD loves going on there as well.

We were there 3 weeks ago and were sorely disappointed that this attraction was "down" 2 hrs before closing. I truly hope they keep it going. We skip some of the newer rides because they're not for us. CoP one of my favorites.

Well, FYI, those people are totally wrong and/or misinformed. Don't believe everything that certain CMs tell you.

I've been to WDW twice in the past two years, and I don't think I've ever ridden CoP. I need to get on that this year.

It's good for kids to see that all the rides are not flash-n-dash type rides--let them see some of the magic of old Disney, a la COP. Our youngsters have ridden it and like it, even as they love some of the newer rides. Hope this classic stays.

OK, but it is an old ride that does not attract a crowd. The Ride mechinism while not complex is out dated. Before the refurb it was down more then up... but even after the refurb, not everything is working, and the seats in some of the theaters are well worn and broken.

The last thing I want to happen is for CoP to close down... in fact I would rather they put back the 80's show, and have left it as a time capsule of sorts.

Oh and the Incredibles ride is on extended development delay, and was to go back where Submarines used to be, not where CoP is. They were working on the Incredibles ride as he new gate buster attraction, but due to a foul up with the robot arm (the robot arm company has an exclusive deal with Universal) they are back to the drawing board on the new gate buster attraction.

I looove CoP. DF hasn't been to WDW in 16 years, and the only two attractions that stick out in his mind are Space Mtn. and CoP. It has to stay!

Yes, that would be the Kuka Robotic Arm and there is a 10 year exclusive agreement with Universal in place so I doubt we will ever see the Incredibles ride.

I love the Carousel of Progress. It reminds me of times when life was simpler and more innocent. I like the newer things too.

I like that they newer things and older things that remind me of my childhood--its a nice balance.

The Carousel of Progress closing rumors have been around for years. I’ve been told on several visits that it’s closing “soon”.

While it’s not actually seasonal (think Wonders of Life, where ‘seasonal’ equals two weeks in December  ), it opens later than the rest of the attractions in Tomorrowland, and closes around 5 PM.

Disney simply cannot close this attraction for good. I first experienced it at the 19XX (a lady never reveals her age ;)) World’s Fair, and it’s one of the three non-thrill attractions I have to visit every time I go to Walt Disney World. I’m not particularly worried… but I do have an ‘emergency trip’ savings account, in case I have to fly to Orlando for one last go-around on the Carousel.

Since I've been told that flattery will get you everywhere I'll venture a guess that somehow you rode CoP at the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, TN as a toddler...? ;)
