Anyone else get the email?

A $20 coupon code coming soon in addition to the "published early registration savings"? Sounds like runDisney may be listening to some suggestions. It reads like savings on the marathon and Goofy only and you must register between March 15 and May 15.

(Full Disclosure - I recently completed the 2011 half. Long time lurker and very infrequent poster. I do have to thank Coach Charles, Frank and many others for their countless suggestions that made the training and race enjoyable. This email was particularly interesting to me as I have been trying to talk myself into the 2012 full.)

I got this, too!

Now this means I need to make a decision as to whether I want to do just the Full or the Goofy!

I received this earlier this evening as well. After doing the full marathon this year, I'm really excited about doing the Goofy next year so this will likely get me to register early rather than holding off through the year while I trained as I would have under this past year's system.

This should be good for the runners (savings) and good for Disney (filling the race sooner and getting our money in their hands earlier).

Is this a person-specific code? Is it just for people who raced in 2011? If so, I'm out. But if not, and someone wants to post it, there will be a lot of happy WISHers (myself included)

It just says:

So be on the lookout for an email containing the coupon code you'll need to enter to receive your $20 discount during online registration

Maura: No code yet, but the email was directed to 2011 runners. It would be nice if it is shareable.

It says "that's in addition to the published early registration savings!"
so it sounds like even if you didn't participate in this year's events, you will still be able to get a discount. (Based on the other races out there, it looks like probably $20 off for early registration + $20 off for this participant coupon code - that could put me over the edge to registering for the marathon instead of the 1/2, depending on how they price the races this year...)

I would love this! I hope they send it out to those running the Princess too, or hopefully it's a sharable offer!

I know that the half is the more popular of the three January races and fills first, but heck, this year it was the same price as the full with less perks (ie Marathon Monday) Sure wish they'd offer a discount or deal for the half as well. :confused3

Just about impossible to do runner specific code. Active would have to be able to track if you were a previous runner. Also if specific, there would have to be 17,000 different codes. I do coupon codes for my online reg so it would be a nightmare.

Disney won't care who uses it. They want to do the PC thing to offer it only to 2011 runners but they want the $$$.

This will make more Half runners upset as they probably pay $20 more than marathoners(unless Disney raises the base rate of the marathon more than the Half) and won't get the free Monday ticket.

Are we assuming the Marathon Monday concept will carry over into next year? I believe this was the first year that it was included, and it only came along halfway through the year when the registration levels were slow.

I would love to see it continue as I'm considering Goofy next year, but I won't assume anything about what will be included until I see it promsed through the year. I would guess it may be another case of wait and see. If the race books up faster Disney won't feel they need to offer the perk.

I think it would be hard for Disney to remove Marathon Monday now. Bad PR when they are trying to increase numbers. It probably made them more money in the long run than cost them.

I would expect it to be listed when they open registration in March. I don't think $20 will increase registration overall dramatically but increase the %'s in the early months(vs. last year). The number of finishers was 3500 less than last year and lowest since 2007. Disney has to do something.

I'm sure they made a fortune on it from people like me. We ended up staying an extra night in our hotel Sunday night and spent a ton of money at Epcot on Monday. I'm sure that more than made up for whatever the base cost to Disney of a park visit is, which I'm sure is way less than the $75 they charge.

I didn't get the email. Wonder if I will get the info when it does officially become available. Wait, of course I will, just need to check here thank you'll very much!

It was at the bottom of the email with the subject "Congratulations On Your Magical Marathon Weekend" from Disney Sports Attractions. It also had the link to your results page and a plug for the Coast to Coast.

I certainly drank my fair share :) in Epcot. I didnt even use my MM ticket as I have an AP. I think that was part of the planning behind the free park ticket - at the very least they broke even (as if you were there Friday - Sunday, whats the cost of that 1 extra day ticket), plus the hotel, and celebratory food. Plus the parks would be there even without this perk, staff, etc.

Plus it makes you want to do it again next year. I think this was a very good perk they added, as it probably didnt cost them much to implement, and it really was a fun time seeing all the medals around
