Save money with bring lunch to parks

Mrs Pete and Disneefun had great ideas! I think I will use both on our trip in May. Plus, if you split the meals this Mrs Pete was saying. You could also take snacks of crackers, pretzels, etc if anyone is still hungry. I really like both of their ideas! Thanks for sharing!

We packed all of our lunches last time. We have a small (can hold 12 soda cans) soft-sided cooler and we just put it in the basket under the stroller.

We put in a cold-pack and we packed pb&j, ham and cheese and tuna sandwiches--alternating days. We packed applesauce, and fruit cups, soda and chips. One day we packed ritz crackers, cheese, grapes and apples--that was a very popular lunch!

Since we spent $0 on lunch we did not hesitate to purchase ice cream or other snacks that we normally would not spend the money on.

In fact, my family preferred packing their lunches. My son is an early lunch eater, my daughter is a late lunch eater and my husband is a BIG lunch eater.

I know this post was about saving MONEY but what about saving CALORIES AND FAT? I don't want to eat french fries and burgers on white bread buns. So if I bring a turkey sandwich on wheat, I just feel better. That's my only complaint with Disney parks, I wish there were some low fat options for lunch. I did see that Epcot is opening a salad and soup place in the land. I would definitely try that!

This is just how I feel, we will be eating healthier!

We took a backpack with a hidden cooler bottom and we reluctantly packed nabs and some water. Eventhough we didn't know, we felt sure that outside food would NEVER be allowed through those gates. Because the bag check point was set up with a table, we put our (heavy) bag onto the table and slid it right over to the CM. I guess because he didn't feel it's weight, he never even noticed the false bottom. We still had no idea if we had gotten by with a cardinal sin or not...until lunch time in the parks. WOW! There were sandwiches on our left and chips on our right and canned cokes everywhere. I thought geeze we could have taken much more than we did. I was shocked that Disney would "let" us bring in anything.
IMO, I'm glad that Disney notices that this makes the difference in weather or not some families get to come at all and continue to overlook it. It isn't hurting anyone and I think it's better to do this, than not to get to come at all :earsboy:
