We leave for HHI next month and wnat to take a tour of Savannah. This is listed as an activity on the DVC website but doesn't say whether it is a tour from the resort our just an option you can do on your own.

Since it is just teen DD and me, I'd like to take advantage of a tour. Has anyone done this thru Disney? Appreciate any feedback you have.

thank-you,

I don't remember ever seeing a Savannah tour organized by DVC, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. I've been four times and just don't recall seeing that offered. I do believe somewhere on the island there is a boat you can catch and ride to Savannah and do a tour - also, it's not a far drive. We visited Savannah in March during our HH trip and just drove between the two - not a bad drive at all.

It's definitely an option you can do on your own. I don't recall seeing it offered as a day trip from the resort, however. It's a fairly easy trip to manage on your own.....drive over and park in the city garage, and walk a couple of blocks to the riverfront area. Parking on the street is available, but you may circle many times before you get lucky. We had lunch at Paula Dean's and I would go back.

We took a day trip to Savannah and did some sight seeing and had lunch at The Lady and Sons (Paula Dean). If you go to The Lady's for lunch either arrive early or after 1:00 to aviod long lines. We got there about 1:15 on an extremely hot and humid August afternoon and waited about 20 min. to be seated. Savannah is gorgeous!!!

There is also a charter service that leaves from Harbortown daily that will take you to Savannah. It's a large boat that holds several hundred people and the trip to and from takes a considerable amount of time but it's a nice boat ride if you want to be in Savannah only a few hours. I think we had about 4 hours to tour and then had to be back to the boat to return to Hilton Head. Once you get to the resort have one of the CM's find you info about charter tours out of Harbortown. There are also fireworks watching cruises on Tuesday night, whale watching excursions and dinner tours from Harbortown----also similar offerings from other places. We have taken the boat from Harbortown to Savannah and also have taken a day trip there on our own. The CM's can show you the best route into Savannah that doesn't require a return to I-95. Just watch your speed as Bluffton PD and others are watching it!

Thank you for all the good info. Sounds like it is an easy enough trip for us to do on our own. I love Paula Deans cooking show so we might have to try an early or late lunch there!

We went to Savannah on our own last year, the drive wasn't too bad at all. Once there we did a trolly tour. DS(4) fell asleep on the trolly, which made the tour so much more enjoyable. We ate at Paula Dean's and it was great. I can't wait to visit HH again, we would definately go back to Savannah, it is a beautiful city.

I'm not sure if this holds true anymore. They start taking names for lunch at 9:30am, and by that time the wait is at least 30 minutes. Then you are assigned a time to come back. For dinner, I think they take names at 3pm.

If you want to take a trolley tour, they leave from the visitors center. About $20/person for unlimited on/off privileges. If you have the right guide, it is probably worth it.
