My family and I will be heading to HHI next month for our first stay. We are super excited. On our last day we will be heading to Savannah for the day. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do if you were only there for 1 day?? We do want to try to stand in line and get reservations to Paula Dean's restaurant. What else should we do????

We took the Paula Deen Trolley tour, and it included a lunch at Uncle Bubbas. It also gave us a special number to call for preferred seating for another day. Since we were flying out of Savannah on Sunday (we took the tour on Friday) we used it for the Sunday Brunch. Our time frame was the end of October.

We really enjoyed the Trolley tour.

There used to be a free trolley tour....if they still have it DON'T take it....

In addition to a tour of the city (which is worth your time), you might also consider driving out to Tybee Island. It's not far. Uncle Bubba's and The Crab Shack www.thecrabshack.com are on your way out there and are good, but different, places to eat. Tybee is a quaint little beach town. You also pass an old fort on the way if that sort of thing appeals to anyone in your party.

took the horse drawn carriage tour at night, losts of haunted places in savannah. Also, take the back way from HHI instead of highway, more rural and enjoyable. there are coupons on restaurant.com for discounted meals, make sure you check for promo code, can typically get a 25 cert for $2.00

When we stopped we got a tour, few wrong turns and I swear an episode of Cops was filming:rolleyes1....

Hey! It could have been a episode of Cops,or, it could have been a movie being filmed, around here you can't tell.

Stand back! I am a Professional. (Actually I do a lot of tourist questions in the library so there!)

Ok. Here is the deal.

Mrs Wilkes boarding house is much better than Paula's, but, you will be safe there.

Make sure you go to Leopold's Ice Cream and get a few scoops. Fresh Ice Cream made in the store. Enjoy the movie posters, as Mr Leopold is also a movie producer.

Huey's on River Street is also a good place to eat. (See "The Gingerbread Man" Movie)

Lots of the shops and smaller restaurants downtown sell a little passport like scavenger hunt thing that you should ask about. It will show you all the good spots around town.

Ft. Pulaski is another good place to stop if you are going to Tybee.

If you go all the way to Tybee, go to the light house, climb it, then go across the street to the North Beach Grill. Looks like a dive, food is like Heaven.

Got other questions? PM me and I'll help you out.

Like Conan, I'm a Ft Pulaski and Leopold's Ice Cream fan.
Savannah is a great city.

WOW!! Thanks. We will only be there from about 9:00-7:00 so I'm sure we will just stick around the city.

I appreciate all your suggestions :)

Susan
