Savanna View for 1 week or Standard for 1 1/2 weeks?

We are trying to decide whether to keep our current reservation for a Standard View room at AKV for a week and half or cut the trip down a little for a savanna view room. We are treating two 13 year olds to a trip (a cousin and her best friend) and since we don't have a clue about children of that age group I thought I would ask here. Do any of you fellow DVCers think the Savanna View would be a really big deal to them?

Also, I booked this with Developer Points and have yet to get a confirmation. In the event that I don't receive one, how likely are we to be able to book that trip in June at the 7 month mark?

Also, can anyone provide advice on any special activities we may not know about that a couple of 13 year olds would love? :confused3

We would stick to 1 1/2 weeks. I don't think the view is worth a trade of a shorter trip. They can watch the savanah from the lodge if they really want to. We have little kids so I can't really speak from experience, but from what I've seen many 13 yr olds would have their heads buried in a game boy instead of looking out at the view most of the time and how aggravating might that be to you?

I agree - keep the longer trip. I think kids of that age would prefer park time and pool time or even shopping time to "balcony" time. Besides, as already mentioned, there are many viewing locations scattered through out the resort for the times they do want to watch the animals.

Thanks DR&Mom and Carol. We'll definitely keep the trip longer then because it would be pretty disappointing if we cut our trip to find out that they didn't give a rip about seeing the animals. We're in our 20s and don't have any kids so we're pretty clueless about what different age groups are into. Thanks again!

I would also go with the longer trip. More days, more magic!

We have stayed in both AKL Sav. and Stand rooms. I always go for longer time at WDW. We have 2 DD's 10 & 8 and I will say that at least once there is nothing like going out on your balcony to view the animals. But with that being said, from what you have described the kid you are taking would rather get the chance to stay longer and enjoy the World more. And there are still plenty of viewing places at AKL. We have booked AKV Stan. room for Christmas instead of Sav. just so we could extend our stay a few days.

I'm glad to see everyone agrees. I feel better about the decision, but now I just hope that our reservation goes through and is confirmed. I worry that we won't be able to get it at 7 months if it doesn't.
