Jenny, when did you take them? They haven't done it out of 1600 in years! It's a standardized test taken all over the country; the top score is 2400 everywhere. Average is 1500, and the SAT is curved up or down every year to make this the approximate average. I wouldn't call a 1500 good, but I wouldn't call it bad either. I agree that it doesn't measure intelligence, but I firmly believe that it measures how ogical you are.

I took them last year, it was out of 1600. I'm 100% sure. I don't where your getting your information but it was out of 1600.

2400 including the newly added essay :thumbsup2

ETA: Most colleges will accept scores above 1000.

1500 is a very good score. It is an average.

Some students in my class got a 1500 and they are in the top 5 of our class.

SATs don't rank your intelligence accurately as some people are not as good at taking tests as they are with everything else.

Also, today, many many colleges don't weigh your SAT score as heavily. They focus more on your social and community activities, what you do as extra-curricular activities and if you maintain a consistant score throughout high school.

I got a 1660. I guess that's about average.
I did terribly on math. I didn't bother to take a 4th year of math so I forgot a lot of what I learned.

I checked and can confirm that it was out of 2400. This is a country wide score and it was not out of 1600 last year, I am 100% sure because I took the test twice in two years. I have a friend who scored 2200. lol my initial response was correct then...see, you had me second guessing myself again!

Average Scores
The SAT has three sections and three scores, each on a scale of 200 to 800.

Writing (200-800)
Math (200-800)
Critical Reading (200-800)
The average total score is approximately 1,538 points (520 in Math, 510 in Writing, and 508 in Critical Reasoning).

An average score is acceptable for most colleges and universities.

However, some of the top schools will expect you to achieve an SAT score of 2,100 of more. A score above 2,100 puts you in the 90th percentile, meaning that you scored better on the test than 90% of test takers.

Perfect Scores
A perfect score is 2,400 points. Approximately 1,000,000 students take the SAT each year and on average, only 20 of them get a perfect score. Click here to learn more about preparing for the SAT.
