Hey Guys

Well I think our Sat Nav has final "chucked its hand in"

Can anyone recommend a nice cheapish Sat Nav that we can use in America.

Both our cars have inbuilt Sat Nav's so we only need one for when we go abroad.

Many thanks

Annette :)

Can you wait til you get there? I bought this one from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/TomTom-XL-335SE-TM-4.3-GPS-Unit/16116228
Converts to £45 incl tax. (I paid £35, depends what deals are on at the time you go, also exchange rate was more favourable)
A few more $'s gets you one with free lifetime map updates http://www.walmart.com/ip/TomTom-START-50M-5-Vehicle-GPS-with-Free-Lifetime-Map-Updates/22401188

If you want it before you leave try Ebay this one sold for £30.13 recently http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USED-TOM-...ting_Software_Software_SR&hash=item460ca359fb

If you've got Smartphones you could consider downloading the CoPilot App with Florida maps. We used CoPilot on our last trip and it was excellent :thumbsup2

I got one at best buy, they had no cheap ones at Walmart., Magellan sat nav $89. But as Wayne says, depends what bargains are around when u get there

I'm with Wilma, get the CoPilot app for your phone. I've just bought the Florida maps for mine.

We downloaded the Tom Tom app for our I phones it was reduced in January not sure how much it is now. Was very good though very pleased with it. X

If you have an iPhone, we used an app called NavFree and they do it for all different places. We have used in both France and Florida and both times got us to where we needed to go.

It's free to download and use and doesn't require data usage. It's very good, would highly recommend.

Has anyone else tried that NavFree app? Sounds amazing with a free app, but is it really as good as the paid for ones?

How does it work without data? Does it need loads of storage?

Same as a regular satnav, it stores the maps on the Smartphone.
For the first time I used phone satnav this week in Leeds when a road was closed, it did the job but I still prefer the widescreen stand alone unit.

I'm a bit iffy about using my phone as a satnav all together to be honest. I was thinking of making it from the airport to the Disney area using the signs, and from there I know the way to Walmart anyway :goodvibes

And me Wayne, I was just wondering about getting from Tampa airport to the nearest Walmart to pick one up, lol!

We did about 20 trips to Florida before getting satnav. Only use it when going further afield, MCO, TPA and around theme parks its not required really.

I have used NavFree - it works OK, but isn't anywhere near as good as CoPilot for just a few quid payment, hence why I bought that. Trying to locate addresses was a bit iffy I found. But for a free app it is awesome.

As you can tell, I have been playing around with a lot of mobile Sat Navs in preparation for our trip to Disney!

Usually I use Navigon for my phone Sat Nav in the UK, but only because I get that free as part of my Orange subscription. It is good, and also stores maps locally, but it is not worth the money it takes to purchase it.

The beauty of Tom Tom is that the POIs for all the restaurants, shops, parks, etc etc are very readily available (I have them all myself, if anyone wants them) and are very easy to install. It's also very easy to create them yourself for anywhere, and I have been using Google Earth to pinpoint all the places we intend visiting, so that I can create POIs for them. More than happy to do this for anyone who wants any POIs creating.

I bought one from a US site called "bling" on E-Bay for our upcoming trip :)

It's a very basic one - "GPS Navigation for Dummies" but I'm sure it will be fine :thumbsup2

Think it cost me around £45 including postage from the States.
