What is good at breakfast and lunch at Sassagoula floatworks? The first lunch, I want something to eat in the car on the way to MK, and was thinking of Muffaletta sandwich. Has anyone tried it, and can tell me how it is? Or does anyone have any better suggestions? Is breakfast ok there or should we walk over to POR for breakfast.

I usually get the Mickey waffles for breakfast and they are the same at either place. Our last stay at POFQ we never made it up to POR for breakfast. I like POR for a meal such as the make your own pasta. We have never tried the sandwich you mentioned.

Dh and DD had a shrimp po'boy that was really good. We asked about the Mufaletto but the way the person described it didn't sound all that good. I had the chicken and pasta and would not recommend it. It wasn't bad but not great.

We had the beignets for breakfast there - not filling but very yummy.

The po'boys aren't listed on allears or the dis menus but they were there in December for lunch. Does anyone know if they're still available?

The Mickey waffles are good. We usually eat light for the breakfast so I get a muffin or bagel (snack credits in Sept 2010). The beignets are really yummy too (order of 3 was 1 snack credit in Sept 2010). The Philly Cheesesteak is good also for lunch. For dinner I have had the ribs which were yummy and my hubby says the pot roast is really good too. We also like POR for the make your own pasta. Very large servings for that so great use of a CS credit.

The muffaletta is acceptable. It is not anywhere near as good as having one from Central Grocery in New Orleans. The Disney version is drier and a cold version (cheese not melted and there doesn't seem to be any oil). Perhaps ask for some extra olive salad.
If you haven't had this sandwich in New Orleans then you might not mind those differences.

The Mickey waffles are good at POR; as was the bacon and eggs. We also liked the oats and fruit for breakfast.
We liked the make your own salad and the pasta for lunch at POR. They have corn kernels to add to the salad...sadly, no sign of Creamed Canned Corn anywhere ;)

We have eaten there on several trips. Standard breakfast stuff which is fine. Had sandwiches packed for our trip home - very good. BUT, this last time my husband had a grilled chicken sandwich and it made him "sick" almost instantly and my beef pot roast was very fatty.

Yes, they have them at the Grill section during the day (from when they stop serving breakfast until they start serving dinner, which is 5 pm I think). Once 5 pm rolls in they have hot meals and a choice of sides like veg, corn bread, spicy rice, potatoes, corn ......

I think it's earlier than 5 - in December, I got a pulled pork po'boy (delish!) at about 1 PM.

As a former NOLA resident, I thank you for the warning! We're staying at POR and I was wondering if I should make the effort to go down there for a muffaletta. Sounds like a no!

A muffaletta ANYWHERE but NOLA just ain't right :sad2:

Although, I do have high hopes for the beignets - so many people seem to enjoy them, but somehow I doubt it will be like Cafe du Monde's.

I'm not from New Orleans, but our local Jason's Deli has a very good muffaletto (very much like the ones we've gotten in New Orleans). I was really disappointed in the copycat one we got at POFQ. It was a decent sandwich, but not a true muffaletto. Same thing with their bignets (very good, but not as good as the original. I make better ones at home using the bignet mix I get at my local grocery store and my deep fryer). The ones at POFQ are sometimes rolled too thin and don't puff up right or they overwork the dough making it tough.

I had the Muffaletta and they asked if I wanted it hot or cold...I opted for hot and it was excellent! The pasta salad that accompanied it was to die for.

DH had the taco salad twice and he loved it! They load it up with whatever you want

Breakfast was your typical CS stuff, nothing really stands out

I've eaten the Mickey Waffles with bacon for breakfast from there. It's just like everywhere else. I tried their eggs and didn't like them.

beignets - not very good. I much preferred the Cafe du Monde ones. These weren't as hot as they should have been and didn't have enough powdered sugar. I asked them to put more on and the person acted liked I was asking for the moon. I stood there till she did it though. LOL

Muffaletta - very disappointed. But I've had one in New Orleans so that may be why.

I liked the cornbread there and the spicy chicken. I haven't had a chance to try their Po'Boys but I have a feeling I might be disappointed with those as well. I'll have to see what they look like first. (Yup - I'm one of those folks who looks at what the food others have ordered looks like.) :rotfl:

we always get either the breakfast platter or hubby gets the made to order omelet....It is good and carries us thru the morning ..

Lunch I have had the chicken ceasar salad and it was delicious...I have had the sandwich too but heck if I can remember what it was called....usually if we are going to eat a sandwich we would go to DTD and Earl of Sandwich....hop on the boat and away we go...

Hope you enjoy your stay

They changed the menu sometime this year and though we loved the food in the past we did not like the new menu items. They no longer had the quesadilla and taco salad or the regular sandwiches or the steak and cheese sandwich all of which we LOVED in the past. They had added po-boys a few types instead. We did not like any of the varierty of po-boys too much bread to meat. The beef and chicken were too juicy and the shrimp one too dry. I have allergies and when the chef showed me the box of frozen shrimp he complained that they recently changed suppliers and the new ones weren't nearly as good--I should have taken his warning. They greatly decreased the variety of packaged snacks and bottled drinks. The desserts were greatly reduced from our last visit as well and instead of baked cakes they had the little round prepackged ones. For breakfast they changed the eggs to what tasted like a powdered variety and the bacon was off tasting each day. We LOVED this resort in the past in part due to the excellent food so we were really sad to see the menu changes and and the decrease in quality.
