Sarilas' O-fficial Pre-Trip Report (a.k.a. Vacation, Take TWO!) - Jan. 30-Feb. 8, '09

I've been wanting to make that bread pudding for over a week! I'm dying here! How was it? The recipe I found actually had pineapple and coconut in it. Must be different versions floating around.

That's one I've never heard before! :lmao:

My voice of reason... my conscience!

I saw that one too, but I found someone who had both recipes listed as the 'old' version and the 'new' version so I went with the newer one!

DH and I bought the two Disney cookbooks when we were down there, I think these will come in very handy for our Disney Movie nights. :thumbsup2

Those pictures were SUCH great FOOD PORN!!!! I am so hungry right now---Thanks Lara!!!! Great idea though!

How was it?

I just realized I forgot to answer the 'how was it' portion of the question! It was delicious, and I'll tell you... it's much easier than I thought. The bread pudding is like mixing a french toast mixture, but leaving the bread in it (and it does soak up the whole lot), and you could easily just melt brown sugar and butter for a quick sauce substitute (the corn syrup just keeps the sauce from getting hard when it hits the ice cream, you could totally do without rum, etc. Disclaimer: I of course could NOT do without the rum! ;) )

I started searching out Disney recipes online and it didn't cross my mind until I did that there even WERE Disney cookbooks! I'm a cookbook collector so now I must have them all!

Ok.
Seriously.
Can I be a foster child of the Sarilas clan?
I want to come to movie night!

Consider yourself fostered! You'll love it... we're the kind of family who gets chocolate cake for breakfast... ssshhhh...

I so need a new camera though - this point and shoot is NOT going to work for Disney food porn!

What a great idea!!! We too do movie night before our trip. whether it be DLR or WDW we are visiting, we each get to choose a movie to enjoy each night before the trip. I never thought about planning a menu to go with each movie. Brilliant!!!:worship:

Kevin always chooses Peter Pan.
Me, Lion King.
Nova, it depends what she's into at that time.

In that case, you're the proud foster mother of two because my BF is in if there's chocolate ANYTHING for breakfast.

Please, do you have room for one more??? I want to come play at your house and eat chocolate cake for breakfast!!!

Your Disney movie night looks and sounds fabulous!

I got the idea when we were planning our daughter's 3rd birthday, a la Little Mermaid. It's like having a birthday party every weekend! (or every OTHER weekend as my stamina holds up!)

DONE. He and Kyle would get along like gangbusters. Ky's a chocolholic and proud of it. I made his birthday cake today - home made chocolate pudding cake with Andes mint candies inside the cake, milk chocolate frosting with Andes pieces over the top... I'll take a food porn pic tomorrow!

DONE! You run away from home any time you wish. Thursday is chocolate mint day! ;)

Kyle's bday is this thursday, 9/11 (God bless him). I'll post the recipes for the frosting and the cake tomorrow, but in the meantime...

I decided some time ago that we NEEDED a mascot on this trip, but the decision of who that mascot should be was a little tricky. Now, I have a deep and abiding love for Alice In Wonderland (the movie in general) and the very first stuffed animal I ever bought from Disneyland was the Cheshire Cat... so I decided that's exactly who our mascot should be!

Trouble was... I haven't had that ol' cheshire cat for eons, so I set out to try and track down a new member of the family.

Luck was on my side! I found the PERFECT mascot, and he came with friends!

I introduce to you... The Mad Hatter, Red Queen and the Cheshire Cat!

I know! They're too cute for words, right?! And can you believe they come IN PLUSH TEACUPS?! SHUT UP! Love at first sight... A wonderful woman was selling them on eBay, and after I bought them we got to chatting. Turns out she lives in Dana Point, which is the neighboring town to where I grew up (and where my Grandparents lived) in San Juan Capistrano, CA! I spent every summer at the beach there, and it was only about 30 minutes to Disneyland... a paradise, I tell you! She was thrilled that the characters were coming to such an appreciative home and I was THRILLED with the irony that the cheshire cat I'd just bought was somehow akin (if only in my mind) to the one I'd first gotten so many (many, MANY) years ago. Awe...

I've decided to box up the mad hatter and red queen for Kyle and Tatiana, and give them as gifts at Christmas (so they can all come to the World)!

This little guy though...

you'll be seeing a lot more of him. ;)

So, I am barely awake as I sit here in front of the computer with my morning cup of coffee just scrolling through all my subscriptions. Then, I click on your PTR and BAM, there is the most delicious looking cake EVER!!! I am wide awake now! I'll take a piece of that for breakfast, please, Lara!

The Cheshire Cat and friends are GREAT! I think I have told you before that Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite Disney movies! Do you know there is a new picture book of Alice out right now that uses the concept art by Mary Blair as the illustrations? I just ordered it from amazon last night.

Dude.

Now I want chocolate cake for breakfast.

It would help to soften the blow of sending my firstborn off to preschool. :headache:

Seriously, that cake looks awesome! WOW, Kyle is one lucky kid. You really go all out on birthdays, it makes them so special.

And I'm lovin' your new trip mascot! Just remember, "we're all mad here!" :ccat:

Uh Lara, my birthday was on the 4th, and since I didn't get any birthday cake of any kind from anywhere, could you make me one of those and ship it to my house??????? Please, pretty please????????? OH, I have died and gone to food porn heaven!!!!! I will not be able to eat anymore because I know that that cake exists, and all other food pales in comparison!!!!!!

I think both MegansMom and I need a cake since our Birthdays were so recent. :rolleyes1

I am not a huge cake person and your cake is making my mouth water. I want to come live with you!!

I love your Alice plushies. I have a new found appreciation for Alice in Wonderland since I watched it recently. There was the cutest little girl dressed as Alice at MNSSHP on Friday. So cute. It made me want to dress like Alice too. :lmao:

I'm not telling my BF.
He'll leave me.
For YOU.

Kyle's bday is this thursday, 9/11 (God bless him).

I have a cousin turning 11 on Thursday. Poor thing. Her 4th birthday celebration ended up being a rather quiet and somber one and she couldn't understand why at the time. All she kept saying was, "Why did something so bad happen on my birthday?"

:sad1:

Oh.
My.
Sweet.
Jesus.

I know! They're too cute for words, right?!

Too.
Cute.
For.
Words.
Without.
Periods.
In.
Between.

And can you believe they come IN PLUSH TEACUPS?! SHUT UP!

Hon, sometimes I think you're the little voice in my head, manifested in the flesh.

First LegoMom.
Now you.
I'm so proud.

It would help to soften the blow of sending my firstborn off to preschool. :headache:

Thinking of you.
