The shortest walk is from Congress Park area or you can get the boat

The path uses a dock/bridge now, you don't walk out along the road.

here's my opinion whether you want it or not. I would prefer to stay in the springs section and use the boat to access DS. The bridge/path bring you to the north end of the village far away from the center of DS. The boat drops you by Jock Lindsay's Hanger Bar right in the geographic center of DS.
