It is a gorgeous hotel and when i visited it i loved it. The thing that really ruffles my feathers is that other then the names of the places its really not like Saratoga springs. How do I know? I live, well i moved out 6 months ago, in Saratoga springs. The town is lovely too but I don't think they did it justice. Like the color scheme of the hotel is too Florida and the color of Saratoga, well in my mind is more darker. The town is full of old Victorian style mansions. Also they got the spa part somewhat right. The town has a history on water springs. Congress park has 4 different water springs, all are natural springs, aka taste pretty nasty. It would be kinda of neat to see replica springs in the resort. I know it is inspired by the town but still it would see more emphases on horses which is the only reason my town is still alive. But i only visited didn't get a full tour of the hotel so I might be wrong on some parts but yeah. Just wanted to let people know. Not to be a party pooper. But i do think of it as a honor that Disney picked us. :) :surfweb:

They actually covered two of your critiques in their two main pools. The Grandstand pool was designed to look like a race track and the main pool, by the spa, is meant to look like a natural springs. As far as the color scheme goes, I don't think you can get away with a dark color scheme in DW and have it still be marketable.

Disney has their own version of the truth. I know, I was entertained when they decided to put a waterfall in Pocahontas. I live next to Jamestown, and believe me, there are no waterfalls.

Many of the buildings on the main street are from the old Disney Institute, which was modeled on the Chautauqua Institution over this way. :)

It actually reminds me more of Main Street in East Aurora. I always look for the red and white striped Vidler's awning when we enter the resort.

I would refer to SSR as more of a "resort". since it is called Saratoga Springs Resort...and not a hotel.
I am sure it felt a bit unusual touring a place that has a name of which you are familiar:)

Did you visit the Carousal section of the resort....? Horses there....sorry your feathers were ruffled....I could be wrong, but I think Disney likes you to feel the magic of "where you could be" within the resort, not the actual, identical place .....

We fell in love with the ambience of the resort, so that is why we "own" there:) So glad they chose Saratoga Springs:)

For what it's worth - I took my parents to Old Key West because they lived 30 miles from Key West. They said Disney didn't get it right. It was too clean!

& there's no chickens on every corner... ;)

Remember guys, these are just "Disneyfied" versions of the real thing. Just meant to give you a little flavor. POFQ is nothing like New Orleans, Wilderness lodge only "captures" the essence of the west.. etc etc
Remember also that the companies main spokesman is a large rodent. Reality is a bit suspended.
