This is probably going to sounds REALLY stupid but where is the Saratoga Springs resort? I have seen pictures on Disney's website but I can't figure out where it is. Can anyone help me on this?

Right across the river/lake from DTD. There is now a boat that goes from DTD to SSR at the same dock as the boat from the PO resorts.

It is next to Down Town Disney. You can see it from the water there. The place has changed names several times, but this latest not only changed the name but also the look with tearing down most of the old bldgs & replacing with new multi-level bldgs.

The Lake Buena Vista Golf Course has it's start at SSR. It's on the site of the old Disney Institute.

Speaking of SS changing names, what was the name before SS? I was wondering this the other day....

Saratoga Springs has always been Saratoga Springs. But the site used to have the Disney Institute located on the property. Most of that has been torn down for the new resort. SSR only opened last summer.

Orginially they were the Villas at Disney Marketplace I think, then Disney Institute and then Saratoga Springs.

The first name might be a little off. As there were Fairway Villas, and Treehouse Villas, and one more type that I can not remember. When the Institute was put in the housing area stayed the same only the common areas and such changed.

Oh, so that's what happened to the Disney Institute! I find it a little sad that the Disney Institute never took off. I think lifelong learning and extracurricular learning is such a wonderful goal and enhancement of our society. I appreciated Disney making the effort and I'm sad it wasn't a profitable enough venture for them to continue.

They went from Disney Villas to the Disney Institute to now SSR. This is the 3rd WDW resort that has had a name change, but the first to have 3 different names. The other 2 were Dixie Landings to Port Orleans Riverside and Disney Vacation Club Resort to OKW.

But this wasn't just a name change. The buildings were torn down and entire new complex built, except for a few of the buildings.

Actually, that's not true. The Disney Golf Resort opened in 1973, was expanded and re-named the Disney Inn in 1984. It was subsequently leased and then sold to the US Army, who re-named the resort Shades of Green.

I tend to agree with Deb & Bill on the alleged renaming of SSR, too. Saying that the Disney Institute was "renamed" Saratoga Springs is kinda like saying that Atlanta Fulton County Stadium was renamed Turner Field. Same site, but completely new structure.

You are correct, I forgot about the golf resort to Disney Inn to SOG. Yes the old Disney Villas were torn down and new buildings put up and the resort was renamed SSR. I did not say this in my post because everyone knows this especially those on a DVC related board and the op was about renaming resorts not reconstructing resorts. FW also removed all the old trailers and replaced them with new log cabins about 5+ years ago but I did not include that resort because it was reconstructed but not renamed.
